Keano vs Bent (If Robbie really is on his way back!)

Ok! Don't get me wrong, i love Keano and i would love to have him back at the Lane, but where would he play!!?

I don't mean this as a silly question, what i mean is, will he be a useful addition, or would he just end up being a complete disruption to Pavy and Bent's developing partnership?

We all know that Keano can probably just slip back into position, but i don't want it to be at the expense of Bent dropping down the pecking order - as he's really been playing well and is beginning to form good relationships with Pavy and Campbell.

At the end of the day, lets not forget that Keano pretty much jumped ship and the pressure was on Bent to deliver - and as far as i'm concerned, i think Bent has done just that!!

Ofcourse this is all pretty much hypothetical stuff at the mo, but what are your thoughts if it does happen!!???

I'd take Keano back in a heartbeat and most probably partner him with Pav althoughh I also reckon he'd be able to form a good partnership with Bent also.

Check out my similar thread from a while back for some other fews on this rather contraversal subject!

I lot of peoples answers really did surprise me - there was a heck of a lot of support for Bent!

If its keane or any other forward... we need at least one more! as it looks Campbell will be here only till Summer, maybe even January, 2 forwards are just not enough, if one gets a serious injury were in big trouble. And i would love it more to bring in a new striker and start to develop a partnership between him and pav/bent instead of holding on to campbell till summer and then bring in a new striker... it will be again bad for the season start as you saw this season, new players just need to time to make themselves comfortable with a new team, new players, new style of play etc

edit: went a bit OT sorry :) i would love keane back, but i dont know if it would be the right signal to the other big clubs. it just makes us look more like a feeder club, taking back the players that dont succed in other teams...

Cheers for the link DJS - looking through it now.
Didn't realise it was such a controversial subject - I always thought Keano left on not-so-bad terms.........well better than Berbatoss, thats for sure!!

I don't want Keane back, he is nearly 30 and would cost over 10m. I am just hoping he stays up there and doesn't score another goal all season.

Would be funny if they bought Heskey or some other striker and Keane found himself only playing reserve matches and the odd 10min run out in meaningless games (those already put to bed)

Torres is the main man up there, ultimately for Keane to be a success he needs to strike up an understanding with Torres. I suspect Liverpool may not allow him the time he needs to do this and he will find himself 3/4th choice.

If he fights his way back into the team there like he did with us when Defoe had him firmly on the bench then fair play to him, I would be lieing however if I said his current woes did not amuse me greatly (long may they continue)

I see Pavlyuchenko like Berbatov, just with a lot less skill, and a bit more movement. Although they wouldn't work as well as Keane and Berbatov, I could see Keane and Pavlyuchenko striking up a good partnership.

Just a quickie - would Keane still get a PL winners medal due to the number of games he's played for Liverpool if he returned to us in January, and Liverpool won the PL? There was a similar thing last year regarding Hutton, but it turned out Rangers didn't win the SPL anyway. Not sure if it was because Hutton left the league or not.

Completely irrelevant but i badly want hary to sign FREDERICK KANOUTE to bring some much needed composure in the final 3rd that we now lack with the departure of berbatov

Always did seem a weird one to me - they played really effectively with Gerrard playing off of him and two out of Kuyt, Babbel and Benayoun wide of him (perhaps Pennant... Or maybe not! Good player but another one ruined by Rafa).

To fit into their system either Keano would have to take Gerrard's play which would be just stupied as the whole formation suited him perfectly or Keano would have had to play wide which is equally as stupid.

OR

They play Keano up front alongside Torres, completely messing up their system and causing great distress to many a Spurs fan.

They have also played him alone up front in Torres' absence which again is really stupid.

Sad as I am to say it, there just aren't that many like Berbatov. He scored like a no.9 should but also provided as much danger with his assists. We all knew we were getting something special when he signed and it's just a shame we couldn't push onto the Champs League whilst he was with us and got in the right players to play around what was a fantastic strike partnership - maybe then his 'dream' to play for Old Trafford would never have cropped up...

Pav is pretty decent though, perhaps providing that physical centre forward presence Berbs sometimes lacked and he'll improve too!

Kanoute and Keano... :hump: What a strike partnership!

Pav is good natch, but these two were pretty special in tandem!

Why would Levy sanction such a move after basically Keane shitted on his face after only months earlier signing a 5 year deal which I'm sure he got a good fee with.

Levy won't buy Keane back, it's smacks of desperation, any player that walks out on the club should never get the chance to wear the shirt again in most cases, Berbatov and Keane screwed us up good and proper and we are still getting over it.

what's wrong with wanting to bring back a player who scored over 100 goals for the club and was still scoring for us only about 6 months ago?!

And HOW is that desperate?!

Ian Rush, Mark Hughes and Barry Ferguson did (or in Ferguson's case currently doing) ok going back after a short spell away!

Let me put this another way, which is morally worse, Sol Campbell running his contract down then leaving or Keane signing a new deal, taking a big signing on fee then asking for a move, IMO both are pretty bad but for Keane to sign a deal, take a nice signing on fee then go is a little bit of a piss take.

There's other players out there that could fill his position for the price we got for him, like say Arshavin for a start, what would be a better front line, Pavlyuchenko and Arshavin or Bent and Keane.

Anyway I still think this tabloid story book is BS, Disney could write better.

Im not sure on this one its a tough one. Id take him back if it was a price too hard to resist. E.g 7-10 million. He was a great player for us, wanted to play at a higher level, i dont blame him.

But as someone said before it all depends on the system we play. Persuming that Luka stays with us, we will be playing a system where Keane would be obsolete. Or would be playing 2nd fiddle to Luka, and as we can tell by his recent antics at Lpool, he isnt to keane on the bench

He turned up one game in three (at best). In truth, so did Berbatov. Let's move on.

Berbatov was a cut above most of the spurs players 90% of the time. 100% effort or not.

I remember one of our european games, away from home, the surface was stupidly wet and it seemed none of our players could string a pass together, nor attempt to run/control the ball without slipping. Berbatov came on and showed them how it was done - almost as if he was playing in an african climate.

Berbatov in my eyes is like no one else, his control is sublime, and his vision is also second to none in the way he has a picture of the game in his head and the position of each player. He really makes the simple passes look very very easy, and the hard passes just as easy. No one is like him, although pavlyuchenko has a few of his abilities in that he can hold up the ball and poach goals from being in the 'right place at the right time' - thats about it though.

Keane and Pav would be a good partnership, quite frankly though, I would not want Keane back, he is in the past and would bring back a ghost. I just think it would be awkward for him to be in a spurs shirt again.

He is at his 'boyhood' club - let him get on with it. If he really loves them as much as he claims then im sure he will find the effort and ability within him to prove all the pool fans wrong.
