I can’t help but feel we have managed our squad badly if we are scrabbling around for players based on one parameter at this stage...

Edit - I should have specified the homegrown aspect of our squad, especially given the seemingly burnt bridges with Tanganga and Winks, rather than our squad as a whole..
Errr what?

Winks burnt his own bridges, mainly by being fairly useless in a Conte midfield.

Tanganga just hasn't been able to stay fit and consistent long enough to nail down a position on the pitch, but he's probably best suited to either RCB, where we already have Romero and Sanchez who are both ahead of him.

But yes to your point, prior to Paratici (and Conte) coming in we have managed the squad badly, hence the painful rebuild. The fact that we have all but two squad positions covered with 7 incoming players this summer already, shows how far we've come in that respect.

It's also a case that we do need to get players out either on loan or perm in order to provide space in the squad for those coming in. As the ITK have said, once Gil has gone (which is looking close) we'll have space to bring in an attacking player. If/when Japhet goes we'll have space to bring in a CB. The only issue is that due to Davies, Dier and Doherty being non-HG for the CL, we will need one of those coming in players to be HG. It therefore makes sense that if we can't get a HG attacking player then the option for CD becomes either keeping Tanganga who is HG or finding a HG CB option - which will be very tough.

Spurs have obviously been talking with Valencia for Bryan Gil, maybe Yunus Musah gets a mention. He was at Arsenal for a few years. Don't know how he's doing now but he was generating lots of talk a while ago.

Well I'm not surprised people have jumped to that conclusion.....

I say HG and at a foreign club. So SC, like box full of sherlocks, first reaction is to jump to the most expensive and likely ungettable player that plays in a position where we are already stacked.
You didn't really expect anything different did you ??

I’m starting to get a feeling it’s going to be underwhelming whoever it is. Why do I have this feeling? ?
Well if it’s replacing someone not in the managers plans, does it really matter if it’s not an X Factor signing? We have a team now and long may that continue.

Only just joined Sporting in January
He's been quite good there as well. 1G 2A in 3 matches this season. 3G 3A in 12 matches last season, and he only played 520 minutes, so it's a little above one goal contribution per 90. 1.5 this season, but from a small sample size.

Yeah this . And it'll be a replacement for Gil , who hasn't had any goal involvements whatsoever.

Wouldn't surprise me if did a deal for tomori. Sweeten Milan up with tanganga. Tomori is ahead in his development compared to tanganga.

I 100% think it's this. Not to say it will happen but I'd guess this is the one we are trying to make happen. There aren't really any other options that fit the bill

Use tabganga to sweeten the deal and try and just throw around the big Pl bucks

As long as it's as underwhelming as Bentancur or Deki then that's fine by me. At this point I can't see Conte allowing anyone to come in that isn't an upgrade on who we're letting leave.

Reece Oxford is the CB name I initially thought of, he's had a real good year at Augsburg, big and physical and is still only 23, would be a good depth signing imo.

JB would be the dream but he doesn't seem to fit Conte's current formation. Mudieke makes sense, but I believe he's injured until 2023 at the least.
