I keep forgetting about this guy and had largely written him off before that. If he’s doing alright then it might be worth having him in our squad next season. Saves a few quid.
I don’t think it’s that simple. They have an option to buy, don’t they?

Funnily enough I read an article about that yesterday.

Although he signed a new contract (until summer 2023) before going out on loan, they do have a "non compulsory" clause to purchase for €15M which "must be invoked before the start of next season".

By all accounts, Unai Emery is keen to sign him permanently, on a long term deal as soon as possible.

He believes there's massive potential in Foyths future due to his versatility, which is important in the modern game.

However, although Emery wants to sign him permanently, the board supposedly do not want to pay the fee in the clause.

Kept Orsic in his pocket last night. You know, the bloke who scored a hatrick v us. We should be bringing him back next season.

He's a better ball playing CB then Sanchez and Dier. Probably a more solid RB option than anyone we have too.

Ours or theirs, do we know? Would be typical if they choose to activate the clause after our transfer window closes.

I'd give him another go, it's not like our current crop are pulling up trees.

I’ve always liked him and felt he wasn’t given a fair chance. He made rash errors but he had so much mileage. Mind you it’s far better that he was out playing than part of this toxic dressing room with a manager who doesn’t believe in him.

Best case scenario is we get in JN and his versatility and ball playing skills allow him to shine. Still love you Foyth!!

Don't know how much has to do with how Villareal setup/manager instructions but Foyth doesn't seem to get involved with the attacking phases of play as much. He's a much better defensive RB than Doherty and Tanganga and does have the tools to get involved in the attacking side of things. With a manager like Nagelsmann, Foyth would likely improve and his versatility would be extremely useful for a manager who is known to make on the fly changes on the pitch.

It was huge mistake binning him off and last night highlighted that

No, the mistake was not allowing him to go out on loan 2 years ago. Poch's "development" plan for Foyth & KWP robbed us of 2 solid defensive options both who had/have potential to be good players.

This is so true

this was a real blind spot for Poch. These guys couldhave really additive members of the squad and we’d have saved ourselves a lot of money.

Shame

Can we recall him instead of shelling out on a new CB, might save us some money?

Let’s hope that Levy doesn’t accept a lower fee to make the deal a permanent and see if Villarreal are willing to agree to it. In these hard times, Villarreal may decide that they cannot afford the fee. Guess we will know in a couple of months time.

Very shortsighted that when we eventually loaned him out we put an obligation to buy on the deal... Definitely better than what we have here, hope his recent performances are being recognised by ppl at Spurs.

He is better now, he wasn't before though.

i didn't realize it was an obligation? didn't he sign a new contract before we loaned him out?

I've read that is in an option to buy and not obligation. End of day, the decision rests with Foyth. If we do get a new manager who happens to think Foyth has a future at Spurs, I can see him coming back.

Imagine loaning out Foyth and buying Doherty. Whilst, Foyth isn’t a ground breaker at RB, I don’t see one area that Doherty is superior.

Villarreal will almost certainly make the loan permanent. In hindsight he would have almost certainly been a RB option for us than Doherty.

Now we must use the €15m generated from his sale [and hopefully Doherty] to reinvest in a RB.
