Always amazes me that CCV's price is usually quoted around the £3m mark, i know the length of his contract has a major bearing on that price, but it does seem very low - he's also a full International i believe and is 22 yrs old with loads of experience. If we were/are going to pay £15-£20m for Rodon, and people are using 25m for Godfrey as a guide, then i'd be bumping CCV's price up considerably too.

Swansea are of course entitled to ask for whatever amount they want. Although I would personally not consider Godfrey as a relevant benchmark, as he (unlike Rodon) has already proven himself in the PL.

Whereas I agree with your point on CCV, I suppose the difference is that only Championship clubs are in for him and that they have far less spending power than PL teams (who are/have been in for Godfrey and Rodon).

Herc pouring very cold water on the financials being the issue in the daily ITK thread.

I do think Jose has identified our centre backs' inability to dominant aerially as a key hole in our squad that needs to be fixed. but my gut tells me Rodon won't be signing this week and we will revisit the CB situation in January — especially with him unable to play in the Europa League and the window opening again in 2.5 months.

Up until January we can get a clearer picture of who Jose's first choice CBs will be, and if Tanganga and CCV can make the grade here. Hopefully we can find a solution to our centre backs' aerial incompetency in the mean time though.

correct me if I am wrong but I thought CCV wasn’t even given a squad number which implies that decision has already been made by management

Swansea demanding £18 million from Tottenham for highly-rated Wales defender Joe Rodon

Rodon is one of the most highly-rated young defenders in the British game and Spurs have until 5pm on Friday to make their move

Swansea City want £18 million from Tottenham Hotspur for their highly-rated centre-back Joe Rodon, with the Premier League club now facing a defensive shortfall after an injury to first-team regular Eric Dier.

The extent of Dier’s hamstring injury, which ruled him out of England’s Nations League game against Denmark at Wembley, is not known but it means that a key figure in Jose Mourinho’s first-team plans is now likely to be missing for a period. Rodon, who turns 23 later this month, is one of the most highly-rated young defenders in the British game and another graduate of Swansea’s academy - what was the only 'category one-rated' academy in Wales, now 'category two'.

Spurs have until 5pm on Friday, when the Football League transfer window closes, to make their move for Rodon. The Welsh club are not in a position to hold on to their highest-value assets despite a strong unbeaten start to the Championship season. It is understood Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has offered a deal of around £9m with substantial add-ons should Rodon fulfil his potential.

The ultimate decision to sell rests with Swansea’s majority American owners Jason Levien and Steven Kaplan. The first team has flourished under manager Steve Cooper, now in his second season, who has been able to recruit loan signings at the top of the English development market. The England Under-17s World Cup-winning coach has developed a style of play that has made Swansea an attractive loan destination for emerging talent.

Rodon is right-footed and has caught the eye of Premier League scouts for his ability on the ball – a quality now considered crucial for centre-backs in the higher echelons of the top leagues. A Swansea boy, he grew up close to the site of the club’s home at the Liberty Stadium. He joined the academy aged eight and was made a full Wales international by Ryan Giggs one year ago in a Nations League game against Azerbaijan. He played the full game for Wales in the away win over Bulgaria on Wednesday night.

I thinking swansea want CCV to go the other way but we had other plans for him is my guess at what the hold ups been. Hoping we were looking at brooks from bournemouth with maybe CCV going there instead. Feel it involves CCV based on the fact hes still at spurs but not given a squad number as if he should be gone by now

Didn‘t see this posted yet but some good quotes from Cooper. Seems resigned Rodon’s going IF we make a substantial bid before the deadline.

I've said it a few times in here, all signs point to issues on a medical front. The idea that the deal is still doable IF that is the case would tell me that the hold up would be such a high fee for a player with medical issues. He has had injury problems in the past.
I wonder if past injuries make it harder for clubs to get insurance for?

I don't know enough about the player to know if this is a signing worth pursuing or not. No doubt we're going to need a couple of CB's in the next couple of years; so succession planning it makes some sense, we have Japhet coming through, my academy knowledge is low so I don't know if we've any others in the pipe.

Straight swap CCV and Rose plus loan back until January?

No it won’t affect the insurance. I work in medical insurance for some premier league football teams and they usually join on a basis called medical history disregarded so makes previous injuries irrelevant and the company offering the insurance wouldn’t even find out about their history, they would get automatically accepted on to cover as the risk is spread over many players and sometimes even staff and the premiums being paid are eye watering

Probably dead. And that is fine. Swans demanding £18m is insane. We got Doherty for £13m & Reguilon for £27m. I would be floored if we would spend even £10m for him. A championship CB in a Covid world is not going to go for £18m to anywhere.

I'm not saying that Swansea could be one of those clubs, but it clearly shows that Championship clubs are financially hurting currently.

I would imagine that Levy thinks he can sit tight and pick up some bargains over the next 3 to 6 months.

He's already got form for doing this (Grealish, etc). Plus ITK and the media have always said that if Levy thinks there is value in a transfer, then he'll find the cash to do the deal.

So he'll sit back and wait until Swansea are begging for the 9m plus add ons.

In the present economic situation, he must be licking his lips; all his Christmases have come at once!!

True. My gut feeling is that Rodon will be less expensive then as well, as Swan’s financial woes probably will become even worse.
But there'll be a few desperate Premier League clubs, battling with relegation or injuries, lurking as well. Don't believe we'll have a clear run at these players in January...
