I'm really interested to see if this has legs (the transfer, not Anderson) now we have paratici.

He will know quality center backs when he sees one, if he agrees with hitchen in this then I'll be happy, but I have a feeling he might go elsewhere.

It's a weird one, because all the noises seem to be "he got relegated with Fulham, Lyon don't want him, so why would any top team want him?".

Kind of a bit like how some would feel if a top team came in for Sanchez, maybe

Would take him as a rotation option, but there are a fair few others who I would have over him.
Our current center backs are barely good enough as it is, why would we want to sign someone who isn't a definite improvement on what we already have?
Andersen looks decent but is he really what we should be looking at or are we just desperate for anyone who isn't Dier?

I'm not sure how I feel about him either but only because I haven't personally watched him very much. I think a lot of our fans are looking at the team he played for and their relegation and basing their opinions on him from that. Fulham fans rave about him and quite a few journalists think he is very good.

It reminds me a bit of what went on with Toby when we were after him. People said he wasn't good enough as Athletico didn't want to keep him and only Southampton seemed to be in the running for his signature. People said he was too slow and wouldn't be good and then look how that turned out for us.

I'm in no way implying that he will be as god as Toby has been for us but there are a few similarities in their playstyle and also people's reservations on him. Also he must have done something right to be named captain while on loan.

i can think of a few Spurs CBs who played as if they were legless over the years but thats a WHOLE thread in itself!

He's been a solid player and strikes a lot of similarities to Toby.

I'm not fussed if he got relegated with Fulham. Harry Maguire and Andy Robertson have shown that doesn't have too much bearing on your career.

I think the concerns are understandable as there’s a big difference between playing in a low block, deep-lying defence expecting low possession and protecting your 18box, to playing on the front foot, high line, high possession.
And we’ve seen (ironically) that some of our defenders struggle to make the transition from one style to the other (from Poch to jose)

Andersen does lack pace and agility. The fact he played well at Fulham doesn’t make him a guaranteed success for us.
The problem is, we can’t afford to get another CB signing wrong. If we sold Sanchez and brought in Andersen our defence becomes seriously slow.
Hopefully we sign the right players because their attributes fit our needs/ gaps.

Fingers crossed

The Paulo is going to want fast, pacey defenders to play his style of possession based football where the team build from the back.

I liked what I saw of Anderson last season but not sure he fits that mould I mention above.

So although he looks to be a good player I’m not sure he’s what we will be looking for.

Speed is a major factor like it or not, we need defenders with recovery pace and awareness... Anderson I'm not sure about tbh but I will say he seems very good with the ball at feet

I think he’d be a good signing. But to be honest, I think we should look elsewhere simply on the basis that our fans don’t seem to be able to spell his name.

Jesus Christ we’ll never sign anyone with those terms and conditions

I think we can afford to sell Toby to raise funds if we sign Anderson. They both like that long cross field pass from the right.

Unless Toby plays the centre of a three

--------------Toby--------------------
Skriniar----------Vestergaard

My ideal 3, thats a very strong trio. Tanganga and rodon waiting in the wings.

Agreed. Whilst I do rate him, he does not really seem to be that commanding leader at the back that we sorely need.

And if we sign more than one CB, I would like at least one of them to have a bit of pace (assuming we will defend high).

They start Andreas Christensen & Simon Kjaer

He seems to be 4th choice for Denmark behind Christensen, Kjaer & Vestergaard.

4 caps doesn’t seem very much for a 25 year old unless he is a late developer.

In fairness, those are three very good centre backs who would all improve us too, especially the latter two (I think Christensen probably gets picked in part because of who he plays for at club level).

I like Andersen, even in a poor side he looked good, he’s very comfortable on the ball with either foot and he’s a big fucker. Would need a partner with a bit of pace but our best CB combination in living memory had not much pace at all so it’s all about how he reads the game and how the side is set up. If we’re looking at him and the fella from Bologna, it’s at least fairly consistent in the type we’re targeting (though TT appears to be quick).
