Looks like he may be heading to Newcastle - presumably because they are willing to pay his full wages.

Be interested to see how keen we really are

If they wont sell in Jan, they wont sell. Not much you can do about it. The extra money will mean nothing to United.

I mean the headline literally reads:

Jesse Lingard: Manchester United prefer permanent deal for forward to leave as Newcastle remain interested

If he is good enough he would be playing for that out of form United team. We should look for better players imo??‍♂️
I think he probably should be playing for Man U but Rangnick seems determined to push other players out of position to accommodate his 4222 system.

I’m in the same camp as some other posters on here - happy for Lingard to sign if Conte genuinely wants him even if he’s not exactly on my dream shopping list.

I think Lingard would be crazy to sign for Newcastle now simply because United would prefer him out the door. Either they need to compromise on who he can join or sit tight for 6 months and have unlimited options.

Can see Conte being very interested in him. Experienced player, good technically, works hard, intelligent footballwise, can play in that wide n.o10 and on a free, a lot to like.

Only thing would be he will want to be guaranteed gametime and he won't get that with us especially if we play primarily 3-5-2.

I think it could be a decent move for him provided he gets a relegation clause in his contract (and maybe even if he doesn't)

This will be Lingard's one big move and no club will offer him more money than Newcastle. And provided they stay up he could be a huge part of their ascent over the next few years.

If he comes to us he'll still be a bit part player, whereas at a club like Newcastle he'll start every week. Also due to their bottomless pockets Newcastle's ceiling over the next 4/5 years is higher than the likes of West Ham who are currently peaking but in all likelihood won't come higher than about 7th again.

Newcastle are proper shit at the moment but, much like Man City, it's not a matter of if but rather when they start competing at the top of the table. A lot of players will want to be a part of that.

A bit curious why he wants to leave Man United due to (no playing time) and being a backup to being a backup here.

He didn’t even make the bench for them last night and he’s guaranteed to at least make our bench every week and get plenty of playing time. It’s good that he’s backing himself to start (if he fancies a move here). Can’t see it happening myself but I’m not against the deal as I rate him.

Yeah I think that's all fair, If I was a player I'd back myself to prove united wrong if Conte was claiming he wanted me but he may well prefer that feeling of being a vital cog in that Newcastle operation.

Lingard is a bit of a marmite player, but he did more at the spammers in 6 months than lol celso has done here since he arrived, in terms of goals and assists and arguably in general play. He is however a total spanner, not particularly likeable, but one does wonder what Conte could do with him, even if just for the rest of the season.

But… He’s out of contract in the summer, so any offer to take him on loan is surely a no brainer considering they would receive a fee still.
