NOTE - I wrote this before reading the rest of the thread.

No, it's not depressing being a Spurs fan. Dear Lord, go back to the 90s - those were dark times

There's a difference between being depressed by Spurs as a whole and being depressed at a problem that we have at the moment. At the moment, we seem to be having issues cresting a particular hill - winning a trophy. That may be irritating, upsetting, even a little depressing, but it doesn't mean that the state of the club is cause for feeling depressed.

If the question had been 'It's so depressing being a Spurs fan today', then maybe the answer would have been 'yes'. The result last night was painful. But a single result is not an encapsulation of the state of the club as a whole. That's like saying that your car is a write-off because you have one flat tyre.

I think it's pretty obvious I was alluding to the present situation today, especially as it was posted the morning after last night's defeat. I also mentioned as much in a follow up post:

Exciting and Depressing aren't mutually exclusive.

I'm excited about the future. I'm depressed about last night.

It's not in the least bit obvious. If you want to argue semantics, I'd say that you're using the present progressive tense ending the verb 'to depress' with '-ing'. That suggests something that is and will continue. If you don't specify the ending of the verb with some form of limiter, then you're speaking of an overall situation.

Additionally, you're speaking about Spurs as a whole. Again, you've provided no limiter. You haven't said, 'after last night', or 'because we've lost another semi-final' or any other qualifier, either in your title or your opening post. You just said 'discuss'.

If you fail to define the limits of the discussion, you can't then argue that people have failed to understand your point. Your point is too nebulous to address in a way that you want. Had you defined or qualified your point, then you'd have had an answer that was more in line with the question that underlies it.

Now you could, if you so wished, edit your opening post or the thread title, adding in a limiter or a qualifier to better define the context within which you feel depressed about being a Spurs fan.

Fundamentally if winning trophies isn't the priority how can we expect to win trophies? We had many opportunties the last few years to add to the trophy cabinet but have been 'unlucky'... rubbish, we continually haven't given ourselves the best chance to get over that fine line between success and failure as the motivation isn't there at the top, until that changes we will continue to be 'unlucky'.

IMHO There is nothing to discuss. A lot of fans are too soft and need to toughen up a little. We are not in the position to be winning titles or cups yet, for multiple reasons. Too many expectations are being put on our team/club due to the fact that we have over achieved for the good part of 4 years now. We are not ready to take that next step into the elite bracket of clubs. We will be in 3-5 years, but we simply aren't now.

Either you can face that reality and enjoy the slow but sustainable progression of our club or f*** off and support another team. Simples.

(Not aimed at you, just the general bitching and moaning that goes on these days.)
Agree with your point, but I vehemently disagree with the use of this word. In any context.

I love meerkats, I really do. But I would gladly feed an ATM machine every meerket on Earth if it meant never having to see or hear this phrase word ever again.

I have been going to spurs since 1951 and have seen us win every trophy we have won except two (even I am not old enough to have seen the 1901 / 1921 cup wins) .
I have seen the good bad and average and can say that if you don't appreciate what we are achieving now the you need to switch your allegiances to a money rich club that can almost guarantee silverware.
I have so much pride in this club at the moment that I am offended by people that seem to think we should be winning trophies almost every year.
City;Liverpool:Chelsea:ManUnt:and yes Arsenal are regular winners and we are amongst the rest of the 87 clubs left to fight it out .
I can see us breaking that cartel with the xtra revenue and new sponsorship money in the future but patience is needed and those that have been long time supporters have by definition plenty of patience.
My guess is that it is the relatively new supporters that seem to "want it now".
But I urge them to keep the faith and trust Levy and Poch we will get there and it will be the sweeter because it will be organic by that I mean spend the money we asa club generate and not funded by some oligarch or oil shiek .
I see we are the tenth richest by turnover in the football world and someone pointed out that Juventus were below us but spent £100 million on a player and that is my point these rich clubs don't have to balance books they just let the owners write off that debt or create new share issues and they also sponsor there clubs via companies that they own at inflated prices .
In trouble with FFP just sponsor a toilet brush for £50 million a year .Extreme but you get my point.
So the impatient ones will have to switch allegiance to a mega rich club with almost certain silverware or stick with it and show some gumption and have faith.

I hear you - but I’ve been going to spurs for 20 years and seen us win two league cups. Am I impatient?

Frustrating more than depressing. The 90s were dire and uninspiring.

We are now in a strong position but keep falling at the final hurdle.

I would love to see the likes of Kane, Eriksen, Son etc win a trophy.

With the quality of the football played the last three seasons I would have expected a win by now.

Worse teams have won a trophy.

Squad is shot to pieces with injuries and players trying to return from injuries. Also we have a few who clearly are NOT of the needed standard.
Hindsight says poch shoulda gone back 3.
Sad times imo, we will really struggle badly to keep chelsea, united and arse behind us.

first goal we conceeded was soft though agree about back 3.

Whatever helps you sleep at night mate. Keyboard warrior you.
Yeah, whatever, mate - at least I understand the language I'm using on my keyboard. But don't worry - when you do your GCSEs they might teach you some of the basics. By the way, aren't you supposed to be in school?

You're coming across as quite a tool to be honest mate. FYI English is a second language for me, and I'll have you know that I'm quite proud of my proficiency in the language..

It is depressing that we have been hammered with injuries that led to us going out of the league cup last night on penalties but there is still scope for great joy, that's the problem with reaching the standard we have reached. Back in the 90's we didn't have to contend with this dilema, it was a consistant misery fortified every year by the joyfull avoidance of relegation.

LMAO! Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

Proud? Of what? Putting up a knee-jerk thread? Laying into someone when they answer the nebulous question you asked? Then downvoting them when they explain why they answered the way they did?

Yeah, that's right - I'm the tool. :ROFLMAO:

When did I "lay in to you"?

You clearly can't read. I said I'm proud of my proficiency in the English language.

Proud of overreacting after last night's defeat? Probably not.

The sad fact was in the 90s you could be decidedly mediocre, or dier, as we were, and still be in the mix to win a cup or two. These days, give or take a freak Leicester or Wigan, the standard is so much higher.
