Alan Shearer has come out today and said that he thinks that the FA should make a decision to appoint an England manager ASAP and goes on to say that he thinks that Harry Redknapp would be the perfect candidate.
I'd like to think that his views are simply because he has the best interests of the England team and their prospects for Euro 2012 at heart. After all what he's saying does make sense from that point of view.

However, perhaps I'm paranoid, but having seen how our form has slumped since Capello left and how close his beloved Newcastle are to us in the league, from that point of view, he'd be delighted for our slump to continue until the end of the season which is probably what would happen if HR went now.

Trying to stitch us up?

My first thought was that he was going to come out of retirement.

But yes, he is acting the arse, trying to further derail our season to the Toon's advantage.

I suggest a smear campaign, photoshopping his face on to Minoxidil adverts. That'll learn him.

He has got a point y'know but there really isn't any reason to name Harry though even though it's the worst kept secret in football.

I've got to the point where I'd be happy for the FA to just take the moron off our hands and be done with it - hopefully we can replace him with someone with a bit of intelligence and integrity.

Stitch us up? England taking 'Arry now might actually do us a favour. A honeymoon period with a new manager for the final 6 games could push us into the top four. The FA should have taken him ages ago.

Only way he could stitch us up is if we appoint him as caretaker manager. Did a great job taking the "mighty" toon down!

Realistically is anybody that matters at the FA going to be taking Shearer's advice on this?

Seriously, the whole everything anybody ever says is because they have a hidden agenda is getting very tiring.

Shearer is a BBC pundit and ex-England footballer. Of course he's going to give his view on who should be England manager. Everyone is saying Redknapp, publicly at least, why should this sheep be doing it because of a masterplan to get his ex-club higher in the table.

wonderful player, awful pundit though! Droney voice and no passion in what he says.

This and more to the point if something Shearer says affects our players then there is something very wrong with the mental strength of our group

Naah, he is just very England centric and that's fine.

Great footballer.

Yeah not the best pundit...

Of course if the Toon are aided in anyway he isn't going to mind is he, but I don't think it's an agenda.

The only pundits worth watching IMO are on RTE (Irish TV).

John Giles and Eamonn Dunphy

In the Barrytown Trilogy by Roddy Doyle, The Van I think, 'Eamonn', 'Dunphy' or variants of it are used as a nickname for a hotdog, because the characters think Eamonn Dunphy is a p***k and a hotdog looks like a...

Just thought I'd add that for no good reason.

....and it may well be true, in real life. He's a bloody good pundit though.
