All we got out of Pooch after the game was everything was 'unbelievable',
but is it possible that he spotted a weakness and instructed Dier to push right up?

Could it be we have a manager who can read the games better than any of us
and totally change its course by subtle changes? That is an exciting thought.
We haven't has someone that brilliant since Ramos.

Or was this just a fairytale fluke that Dier through lack of discipline/concentration lost his way and happened to find himself in the clear?

It will be interesting to see if Dier starts on Sunday.

SPURS DREAM TEAM

Lennon
Soldado Townsend Carroll Eriksen
Vorm Paulinho Friedel Dawson
Rose Dyer

I was tempted to put in Lloris for Paulinho in CM but thought better of it :cautious:.

Is it an attempt to make a thread out of nothing? I am in then.
PS I hope he is a new Paolo Maldini.

still can't understand why he was still so far up the pitch when we had lost the ball.
It's quite dangerous really. Hope he doesn't make a habit of that, unless we're somehow always guaranteed to regain possession and he ends up scoring! I'm hoping our general-advancing play goals come from our attackers, not our central defenders.

IMO he'll defo start on Sunday, probably at right back as we didn't appeal Naughtons red....with Jan partnering Kaboul as CBs.
I don't think this was a Poch masterstroke....i think Eric would've given Poch more credit if that was the case.

He was playing right back and ran into the space as "Townsend had moved outside"(his words).

Does not mean he can play striker.

Should we play Adebayor centre back because he is good at helping the team defend set pieces?

When he scored, he was playing outside back, which have been playing forward under Pochettino. He happened to be in a spot where the run opened up inside, and he took it, fortunately, and Kane had his head up to see it.

I saw Ginger P at Pompey in a friendly when he made his debut.

Within 10 minutes I could tell he had everything on his locker but couldn't find the key.

Not that is he's completely crap in defence, but that he can also play upfront?

I have rewatched the highlights and still can't understand why he was still so far up the pitch when we had lost the ball.

It's useful to have a standing striker on the pitch if our back are against the wall and need to throw people forward.
I cant believe how many haven't noticed the CM dropping in to fullback position in preseason(Holtby does this alot)

Anyway the teams is lining up with a back 4 with the two fullbacks pushing up as seen here:
Screen Shot 2014-08-20 at 07.08.17.png
Dier then points to Eriksen to drop in to RB which allows him to go up even further as seen from the next 2 screenshots:
Screen Shot 2014-08-20 at 07.08.06.png Screen Shot 2014-08-20 at 07.08.37.png
Now Andros moves in to the gap created by Eriksen and becomes CM with Eriksen going RB and Dier now able to attack as RW(this leaves the opposition with a huge dilemma, does Diame, the left winger, follow Dier or does close down the RB, also does the LB for west ham follow Townsend or wait for Dier to become the RW). Here is Eriksen in RB and Townsend in CM and Dier(not in the image) as RW:
Screen Shot 2014-08-20 at 07.18.07.png
Now Eriksen runs in to CM with the ball and Townsend goes back to the right in an attack RB position before Eriksen pushes the ball to Bentaleb, which is seen below. You can also see that Dier is RW and both Kane and Holtby who were further forward are about to drop deep as well as Diame(LW) is now deeper than the LB(who's responsibility it would be to track our traditional RW, dier in this instance):
Screen Shot 2014-08-20 at 07.24.33.png
Kane drops deep and Dier makes the run that a RW should! And tries to get behind the defence(notice he makes the run as Kane is about to get ball, clearly show that he isn't a retard):
Screen Shot 2014-08-20 at 07.29.52.png Screen Shot 2014-08-20 at 07.34.20.png
Notice how Diame swap positions with Cresswell and Cresswell is the LB again but neither stick to Dier and also notice how Kane being the striker, then drops deeper to AM almost(which bobby has been doing alot this preseason) causes the CB's to make a choice; either drop deep and allow the space or push up and close down Kane. The reason it works is because the defence does have enough time to react as an unit but has to make an individual choice, which led to several players doing a little of this and a little of that.

I would hazard guess this is down to Poochie since last season our movement was shocking

Ginger Pele was used as a battering ran up top, Dier was there though team play.

I like your summation dude. (y)

Gary Doherty goes down in the annals of Tottenham Hotspur as THE Ginger Pele...how dare you even suggest that anyone could replace him :banghead:
