Bit strange, but okay!

Ed Sheeran named as Ipswich Town shirt sponsor for 2021-22 season

The logo which will be printed on the shirts for the 2021-22 season includes the symbols +, x and ÷ - the titles of Ed Sheeran's first three albums - as well as minus and equals symbols, above the word 'tour'

Harry Kane sponsors Orient's shirts, has various children's charities and a tribute to the NHS on them.

Ed Sheeran sponsors Ipswich Town's shirts, advertises his albums on them.

Huh.

Does he actually? Genuinely had no idea. Fair play if so.

As for Sheeran, I'm in two minds about it really. On the one hand I think it's properly naff and the thought of it makes me cringe. At the same time though, when I sit back and think about it neutrally, is it really any different to any other kind of sponsor? When you think about it, AIA don't sponsor us because they want to help the club, they sponsor us because they want to advertise their brand. A singer like Sheeran is basically a business like any other so if he promotes his brand in the same way then I guess ultimately it's the same thing. Just seems weird because we're not used to it.

Again, to reiterate, I think this is massively naff and would hate it if it were us. Just on an "academic" level I suppose it's not as weird as it first sounds like.

He's putting his album names on there, so basically the sponsor is going to be something like:

+×÷-=

sounds like it'll either make their shirt look like a censored swear word, or a calculator.

Yeah I saw the article. It'll look fucking shite, don't get me wrong. But is a + sign any less of a valid logo as a Nike tick (first example off the top of my head) or is it just cos we're used to one but not the other?

I guess it'd look odd if it were bigger and in the middle, like a sports direct special t-shirt, and if it were in a row of other funny symbols.

I can see it looking like when F1 was full of cigarette sponsors and they would do a race in a country where it was banned. Not 'Bitten and Hisses', but some did funny symbols.

We're already well on the way towards that mate. Sleeve sponsors was the tip of the iceberg I reckon unfortunately.

I was watching Wolfsburger vs Salzburg last week maybe, and the state of their kit was hilarious. I don't think they must be allowed to wear it in the Europa

It's like when you see a budget modified car where the budget is blown on stickers and nothing else.

Nascar kit. Surprised Levy hasn’t tried that one.

Funny this comes up today - he's just announced he's renewing for next season and the shirts will carry the Tommy Club logo - charity for armed forces vets in association with the RBLI.

Fair play to him like I say. Trouble is Harry Kane is like the girlfriend who's just too good to be true. Boyhood fan, family are all season ticket holders, one of our best ever players, professional, genuinely nice guy off the field, no interest in the celeb lifestyle, uses his influence for good....where is the catch?

Oh, the levels he's just risen to in my eyes!
Good on ya Harry.
And to all the vets from every allied nation - THANK YOU!

Just like when Norman Cook's record label sponsored Brighton really. Some much needed income for the club, courtesy of most famous fan and a little bit of exposure for the fans project.

The Ed Sheeran one appears to be hinting at an unexpected tour, which I'm sure the announcement of the deal has doubled up as a subtle social media tease to his fanbase.

Only start worrying when he takes up cigars, grows his hair long and starts fixing things for kids.
