There are worse places than Tottenham and there is big development coming. I wouldn't see much need for Mike Leigh to be there except if he's location scouting for a film about gritty life. I live between Wood Green and Tottenham and like the area, Great Turkish community.

quote from my gf:

'she shouldn't worry - it'll all be gentrified within the next 5 years anyway
whatever was good or bad about it before will be irrelevant once it becomes exactly the same as everywhere else'

Yep the High Street is a dump, and I've never had any reason to walk down it other than to get somewhere else or go to a spurs match.

Tottenham is more than just a high street though, and thankfully due to the increase in funding that's going through the place it has meant that parks and public spaces, which you always stayed away from as a kid, are now wonderful places to go to. And thanks to the Lee Valley I've found it is more interesting and diverse than most other boroughs.

There are some great community projects springing up in the area too, the arts group in the article is just one, but there are more.

And people have realised this with Events such as the Tottenham ploughman showing that there is some great stuff being made in the area. With Redemption Ale (I recommend trying the Hopspur to any spurs fan) and Wildest Cheeses probably being the most well known amongst the people I know.

The place is changing, and sometimes I worry it's becoming to different to the place I grew up in, but I do know that if you dig just a little deeper than the run down high street, the place certainly has more character than a lot of the other gentrified boroughs next door (Until Haringey ruin that to).

Grew up there years ago now but always go back for a visit even on non match days. Too many good memories. Still got family there. There's more to Tottenham then just a football club although the football club is pretty bloody special (y)

I love those Saturday's in the summer when you walk down in the estates and theres an old Jamaican guy sitting on his porch with a beer and sometimes a BBQ with some music pumping out. Chilling out in the beer garden having some jerk chicken.

Says the man who refuses to use the black pieces when playing chess.

You know that was a joke right?

Like I would let my white chess pieces mingle with black pieces pfff...

Grew up on Ferry Lane, Tottenham Hale. Had a great childhood. Loved it there. It's definitely changed but I still visit every time I'm back in the UK
