Yeah, we can't take his word as proof without evidence in terms of the actual racist chant being made, which is why (so far) no fan has been arrested for making racist remarks, but just because no evidence is found to back up his assertion it doesn't automatically mean he has made it all up and should be punished. He thought he heard something and you have to take that at face value. As I previously mentioned my suspicion is he heard something like "who who who" or "boo", so he is (most likely) mistaken, but you don't punish a player for reporting it.
Well as no proof found then outlets reporting it for what an hour during and after the game should have a statement saying that, but again, in a crowd that big I could turn around and say someone made a racist remake at me, does that make it right? No makes me a c**t like rudiger

So in your instance if a woman accuses a man of rape then we should take her word otherwise other woman may not come forward?
give me a break, if he accuses someone of being racist and it is incorrect then he should serve a ban like the person he is accusing would have to serve.
It still goes on and is disgusting but does not mean anyone can be called out on in without any evidence.
Conducting a criminal investigation is hardly "taking someone's word" for something.

And again, punishing or demanding an apology from someone who might've made a legitimate mistake, discourages the progression we seek to make, or worse incites worse societal reactions.

You seem convinced Rudiger has made the entire thing up

So could have been anything said but straight away says it’s racist, i understand the need to get rid of the problem but at what expense and why even defend the guy for saying something that could have been anything is straight away racist? Nothing should have been said until the allegations were proven.

But could have been anything, why jump straight to it being racist?
Because as a black man, I suspect he is acutely sensitive to racial abuse.

People are attuned to focus and pick out what is relevant to them. It's called cocktail party syndrome I believe

Right so not misheard but singled out the one person out of 60000 who made a monkey noise?? No your right how could I be so stupid, he is a black man in a stadium full of people of all colours and religions but he zoned in to the 1 maybe 2 people making monkey noises.
You win our whole fan base is racist and we are coving you the whole thing as the cctv in the stadium isn’t plugged in and rudiger is right. No one ever has just made up a claim.

Oh come on. You know what these black people are like. Always accusing people of racism. You can’t say anything these days. Throw you in prison just for looking at someone funny. Evidence? Don’t make me laugh. You don’t need evidence now. Black guy just has to say you were racist and that’s it, you’re banged up for five years. My brother-in-law’s a copper. He told me they have to arrest 50 white people a day for racism. Targets, innit? They know it’s all bollocks. Course they do. But they have to do it or they get fired for racism themselves. World’s gone mad, mate. And women? They’re worse! It’s an actual fact that a woman can say you raped her and the courts have to believe her. Don’t need any evidence for that either and if you deny it they double your sentence! Fifteen years and no parole. Mind you I reckon the sentences are a joke these days. I’d chop their fucking balls off. Throw away the key.

In the match thread, many of us were condoning it and I said in more than one occasion that the commentator was repeating second hand info with no evidence. Well this is what happens.

Either that or he misheard the "who who who" from a section singing, who let the Yids out as monkey chants. I don't think he made it up to deflect from his reaction to Son and the red card like some people are suggesting.

At the end of the day there was a lot of noise and he heard something that sounded like monkey chants. There is a possibility that he actually did hear that, but it doesn't look likely evidence will be found to corroborate what he thought he heard and the most likely explanation is he misheard something that sounded like monkey noises. He shouldn't be made to apologise for reporting what he thought he heard, although joint statement from Chelsea and Tottenham would help

Does that song get sung much these days, I genuinely can't remember the last time I heard it.

You can't punish Rudiger for mis-hearing something, even if he has form for doing it before.
It's been investigated and found that no offence took place.
Case closed, as far as I'm concerned.
