Surely this isn't fair!

Firstly, Hutton has been deemed cuptied by UEFA, because Rangers dropped into the UEFA Cup from the Champs League - never mind the fact that he hasn't actually played a UEFA Cup game!..........room for appeal possibly!!?? :-((

Secondly, WHY do Champs League dropouts get another chance at winning something by getting a shot at the UEFA Cup aswell!

I know UEFA are trying to make it a tough competition, but c'mon, there are already some decent teams, plus it doesn't seem fair when teams like Rangers and Celtic who are undoubtedly always going to make the CL, but also get a go at another European Cup if they fail, whereas the likes of teams like Aberdeen, Hibs, Hearts etc, who battle to get UEFA in the first place, only get one shot!!!

Thoughts!

if he was registerd in there squad for UEFA cup before the move then its all fair, they wouldnt leave him out of the squad just because maybe he might move so they had to do it

i do agree about CL drop outs, dont see why they should come to the uefa cup....should just make more spots avalable from the start and have mroe teams in it that way

But isn't it the case that if we outlast Rangers in the comp he can play - same scenario as Rocha and Benfica last season?

I doubt it.

Hi 57 - Why do you doubt it? It's what the UEFA rules seem to say - and I'm sure that was the case with Rocha too

whoops just read the whole of the rule - seems like he can't - apologies :)

In that case it's an even bigger sacrifice that Hutt has made than just leaving Glasgow

Oh yeah! Very good point - i completely forgot about competition registration, i just assumed they would've only registered for the Champs League.

surely (don't do it?) the fact that we haven't yet registered the likes of Woodgate, Gilberto, Gunter etc. means that registration for this phase of the competition has not yet taken place?

in which case, Hutton would be eligible for us when Rangers are knocked out (by us :hump:)

The reason they fall into the UEFA CUP is that the G-14 group demanded they got a second shot at silverware if they were to drop out of the Champion's League.

It's the same principal with the formation of the group stage system in the European Cup. They can't go out over two legs early on.

G-14s stand was "If you don't adhere to what we want, we will break away and create our own European superleague."

Only in football could this happen.

Yes, it would be a total disaster for football if Milan or United were to trip up against the likes of Sanilav Lvov in an early knockout round.

Maybe there was a reason why Chimbo wasn't shipped out in January. Maybe Juande has a cunning plan....

alas Shiz this

'Furthermore, if the player's new club is playing in the UEFA Cup, his former club must not have played in the UEFA Cup at any point in the current season."

seems to rule that avenue out
