it was always the worst case scenario that we start throwing dont big money on panic bids.

Buying hulk is the definition of a panic bid. There must be better targets out there.

just posted this in the ITK thread when i meant to post it in here...........

question....Hulks stats are pretty impressive under AVB at Porto. But i am unsure what role this was in. Some think he is a winger and some a forward. Does anyone know if he played more a striker role for Porto?

If so if Ade or JD is going could he come in as a striker? With Lamela in on the flank and Eriksen in a creative role

He was used in a front three of Rodriguez and Lopez, and they used to rotate and confuse the hell out if defenders. They would get pulled out of position and would kill them on the counter attack. Hulk plays on the right, but is able to switch to the left or play up front.

I'd take him, but only at the right price. A figure somewhere south of £20mill would be decent value.

He's a world class talent who has lost his way, he may regain his form of old under AVB, a man who speaks his language on and off the pitch, but then again he may not. Football history is littered with brilliant Brazilian players who have lost their way after a big money move and never found their mojo again.

Burt saying Lennon's future could be in doubt now. First time we've ever heard this.
I thought we had some rumblings from one of our sources recently but with the Wllian and Lamela deluge it's been kind of put to one side.

Think Lennon would be expendable but that being said, I can't see him being sold as I'm sure we will want a pretty penny for him and I don't honestly know what calibre of cub would be in for him as it won't be any of the top 5 and it would remain to be seen if he would move to a lesser team for first team football.

To be honest mate, I hope we keep him. I know they're totally different players - but I'd much rather off load Siggy.

I know many won't agree though.

Might be drifting off into conspiracy land here but is there any chance this a smokescreen? The Hulk link is a just about plausible one to the point that the media will debate whether it's a good idea, whether we can afford it and whether we can afford the wages* In the mean time Franco can get on the blower to a lesser known target say Yarmalenko and get that sorted relatively quickly without getting into a bidding war/getting Willianed. Just a thought that it could be cooked up by AVB and Burt. Hell it even benefits Hulk as it puts him back in the window.

*wages are the main issue with any potential deal here IMO. He's on an absoloute packet and I can't see why he'd take a large cut. Less they fancy loaning us with the option to buy and covering part of his wages.

I would expect that Hulk is somewhere on AVB's lists but obviously has not bee at the top of it. The idea though of now appearing to go after multiple high profile targets as a smokescreen appeals to me

I agree to an extent but we can't keep Chadli, Lennon and Townsend happy as backup to hypothetically Lamela, Eriksen and Hulk.

This Hulk link just doesn't have me excited.......well, maybe i'm just being greedy.

But when the Willian Lamela future was mooted I felt it was the perfect combination. Lamela - a Bale replacement cutting in from the right with similar dribbling skills and eye for a goal. WIllian - a tricky creative right footed inside forward who would cut in off the left.

So what i'm saying is now that we have missed out on Willian, I want our Plan B to be a similar player as that is the type of player we desperately need. Hulk, Eriksen, Dzagoev, Pjanic just don't seem to fit perfectly in that position IMO. They seem to be have other positions where they are better suited.

Llajic might be a good shout but I'm still hoping for a link to a player where i go 'Oh yer forgot about him, he'd be perfect' haha

Edit: Mata would be a perfect alternative. Just a shame we have no chance of getting him because we will never deal with Chelsea

How is it a panic bid when we know our coach is a massive fan, and he's a player who helped him won a treble?

I think more might agree with you than you think.

I don't want to sell Lennon, he can be devestating on his day and I think he is one of those players who you don't realize his worth until he is not playing. Having said that he definitely needs a kick up the arse and Townsend deserved a chance ahead of him at the moment.

As for Siggy. Good player but not a top four player. It's not difficult to see he is the weak link in our midfield at present.

Hopefully franco will sort out that link for us and come up with a smasher

why is he only a target in the last 6 days of the window if AvB is such a massive fan.

Seems to me he wasnt particularly high up our list.

Working down targets I'd imagine. But yeah, you're right - he clearly wasn't at the top of the list.

I genuinely don't get this one.....
I would rather Lamela, Townsend, Chadli, Lennon as the wing options & spending that much on Hulk would pretty much mean Townsend won't get a chance when i think he is better suited to our team than Hulk.

No. I would think Hulk was always a possible option. I see no hints of panic buys this window but so see a ruthless, systematic working through clear lists containing the players identified as targets by AVB. If anything Willian was a panic bid since he was not available when the window opened
