It’s hard because when we’ve appointed managers like Nuno who so obviously was the wrong choice then you can’t give them time. But usually you have to be seeing something from a team after 6/7/8 months. Not the finished article but if things aren’t coming together by then I think you have to ask questions. If there’s no patterns of player or understandable tactics after that amount of time then I think there’s a problem.

More relevant question should be:

How long is Levy willing to give a manager before undermining and not supporting them?

The reason I disagree with this is because in recent years, it seems that the decisions the board made have been reflective of the growing frustrations of the fans and the decisions in appointments seem reflective of those frustrations, as an example; Jose was reflective of idea that we need to be winning now. So my argument is that we should probably realise that we have a bigger role to play than first thought. Given that this is something where our individual actions actually can contribute to the grander scheme of how the spurs fanbase as a whole expresses themselves and therefore are heard, then we should take the opportunity to use what's actually within our power to impact in a way that helps, not hinders the club.

Sitting here and debating how long Levy will or won't give a new manager is in comparison, a waste of our time because; first of all, only he knows and so it's conjecture and second of all, the only way we can make a difference on that front is through what I just laid out.

So I think the real question is; To what extent are each of us as individual fans willing to take responsibility in the way we impact the club or are we simply going to admit that infact, we don't want to take responsibility and we simply want to keep focusing on somebody else doing so? Are we going to keep hiding behind the idea that our contribution is pointless so that we can take the easier option of pointing fingers or are we going to instead try and contribute more effectively to the collective power we do have.

I think the best any coach could do with our current squad is 5 or 6.

Add 3 high quality starting XI players, GK, CB, and AM and I’d expect some sort of challenge for 4th.

If the football is more attacking, the coach can carry on forever as above.

The key point being this is the height of the Boards ambition

I think it would really help if the manager came out and explained what he is trying to do. Jose and Conte were purely about winning and so as soon as that stopped happening then they were fucked.

Poch talked about the collective, about we, about being brave and building towards something and therefore there was a lot more love for him. He also clearly bought into Spurs and being here with us. That's not to say he never flirted with ManU or Madrid but he clearly thought Spurs was a great place to be and showed a lot of respect to the club and the fans.

If the new guy is a "my way or the highway" type and clearly thinks he is doing us a favour by gracing us with his presence, then he won't get a huge amount of breathing space. If however, he can take us on a journey with an upward trajectory (even a slow one) then I think he will get more patience.

Someone needs to be the focal point for the club and I don't see that being Levy, Munn (but who knows), or a DoF which leaves the manager - be more BMJ and less Conte and I'm happy to be patient.

Good thread however hard to answer that as it has no context right now.

For example when we hired Nuno 90% of us thought it was a terrible idea so patience ran very thin very quickly especially when the style of play etc was so poor.

If we hire Glasner for example I won’t have much patience.

If we hire Slot knowing his previous style of play and work in Holland I’d have a lot more patience to give him the time and players he needs to change our style of play and start getting some good results.

It would also depend on the signings we’ve made this summer and how the squad looks that he has to work with, if we for example made no signings this summer and he has to use this seasons squad I’d give him a good 2 seasons at least because it doesn’t matter if Houdini was our manager with this current squad he’d find it difficult.

But I would say generally the new manager will need a good 2 seasons minimum for us to start to properly judge them however it really depends on a number of circumstances, are we after say 6-10 games starting to see small signs of a plan and style of play etc.

If it's with this group of players then he should be given until they've retired... :sneaky:

If it's with another group then 5 games:cautious:

For me - it is about progress and direction. Progress isnt linear but I want to see an identity, progression in terms of play on the pitch, a feel good factor.

Off the pitch - the opposite of Conte.

I dont think we should have any targets in the first year but we know fans will want titles and cups etc etc etc but we all need to see the long game here.

18 months is 3 transfer windows and I would hope to see some sort of progression in style and results from here

Well if SC is to be believed, who'ever is our next manager is already the wrong choice.

But a cringe 'we'll make you proud' video, or a press conference waving a Tube ticket in the air might be enough for me.

They need several windows, 2 seasons as long as there is clear direction being shown. Might be a poor example after the result just now, but Arteta was backed in every decision he made and though they aren't going to win the league, they have improved tenfold since he came in.

Hope the votes for half time of first game were joke votes but a part of me believes one or two maybe serious and that says it all.

Completely depends who the manager is doesn't it.

Yes. Bring in Mourinho or Conte on 15m per year and expectations should be high. Bring in Slot on a fraction of that and I think that buys him some time as long as he serves up some watchable football and there are signs of progression.

From any new manager, I want to see something new and exciting. Right now a glimmer of hope is what is needed.
The new manager will get time as long as they give me hope. So it is not a set period of time.
