Harry Winks. Whatever we say about him, and I’m not particularly in love with him, he is a homegrown current England international who as long as he plays will probably be at the next Euros and World Cup, who is yet to hit his peak and is on a long contract. Even in an allegedly deflated market, no way does he go for that price,

Besides, Winks, particularly if we’re shifted towards 3 in the middle, is a useful player to have even if not first choice.

Quiet second half.

Moved the ball well first half in tight spaces.
Still let's players go off his shoulder too easily.

Nice and tidy, but still so terrible defensively, his positioning, lack of strength and tackling are so under par. We are crying out for someone to lead the middle of the park, who i'd be happy for Winks to partner. But people run past him with too much ease.

First half I thought was very decent but second half when the game was basically attack v defence he was far less involved.
If you watch match back spot him looking back to see where strikers are moving & just moving across to block space.. Himself & Sissoko done that really well today

Considering one the major complaints about Hojbjerg among Saints fans is that he constantly passes backwards and sideways, I think this partnership would frustrate a lot of people (although I'm sure it will be useful on occasion).

That would certainly be an improvement on Sissoko passing it to the ghosts of our 1901 FA Cup winning team.

There was an article claiming winks was to be sold this summer to make way for a DM. It wouldn't surprise me if Winks was left on to refute that speculation when he possibly should have been replaced earlier.

We didn't crumble so perhaps Jose is right to make the point that Winks is more than capable.

Both Poch and Jose have experimented with where to put him ans he always shines when left alone in the middle. What was interesting from yesterday is witnessing a couple of piercing vertical passes. This was always the missing element of Thudds game and a very welcome addition.

He's a learner and his managers clearly like it.

I think he does a hell of a lot that goes unnoticed like cutting off passing lines for the opposition. He didn't get on the ball much in the second half but that just looked like Mourinho's passive strategy to me.

No way should we sell Winks - he is no world beater but he is a great player to have in the squad plus he is HG. Shouldn't be a regular starter though once we get some players in.

He'll never be sold. Home grown (which is crucial as we are lacking in this area), disciplined, loves the club, good professional, England international. It's just not going to happen as much as fans on this site would love it to.

I mean if we want someone that can pass and tackle ;)

I just don't get how Winks is viewed by so many. Spursfan. Never stops running. Fights for every ball. Never complains. Can actually pass the ball etc. and still it's not good enough just because he isn't Xhaka?

Not to mention that he is clearly trying to improve. That pass to Son - perfect example of the kind of passes Winks is capable of making and really trying to improve on.

Yes. He is quite small. He will never dominate a midfield the way the old school DMs could, but don't let perfect get in the way of good (or whatever that saying goes).

I know it goes against the general narative in this thread but I thought he looked quality yesterday, in fact he has since the break, Jose obviously rates him, some are going to look foolishnext season when he's got more freedom in that midfield. The pass from deep in our own half in the first half that almost created a goal was sublime. I'm very happy he's here and in the team

I like Winks and don’t want to see him sold, however, I am not sure there is space in the team with our aspirations for both him and Lo Celso. In my eyes Lo Celso is the better version of that type of player and we would be better with another type of player, ie a DM and a CAM.

He's been fine since the restart and shouldn't be sold. I wonder if he would look a bit better next to Hojbjerg or the DM that we sign. Everyone has been talking about Hojbjerg-Ndombele-Lo Celso but if we can't get Tanguy firing what about Hojbjeg-Winks-Lo Celso

Just can’t see us selling with the club home grown quota.
I would say he might be on the list of players that if a good offer comes in we’d consider selling a long with a few others. Gonna be interesting to see who does go this summer.
