We need the new defenders that's a given and we all agree on that but perhaps by not defending inside our own box every game and giving the ball straight back to the opposition every time we got it will help our defenders whoever they are. Our defence will have different problems this year no doubt but at least our out ball won't be kick it up to Kane and hope he can play Sonny in.
Absolutely agree, imo the vast majority of the problem happened further up the pitch, usually with Son (who is somewhat excused due to carrying an injury) repeatedly losing the ball and us getting caught out of position (wing backs and/or midfielders anticipating Son holding ball up or laying it off and moving accordingly). Almost as big a cuplrit was the 'press' the front players employed, which was so pitiful that it troubled no one, except our own midfield because it usually caused Hojbjerg to break from shielding the back line in a vain attempt to join the press, then he was easily bypassed and hey presto, opposition running at our central defenders.

Sure the defenders could have done better individually but if we get the fundamentals of a proper press right this season, then regardless if it's Tapsoba, VdV, Dier or Donald Duck, they'll defend better because the TEAM is defending better. And , even if it is Tapsoba or VdV rather than Dier, we will still concede goals at the back post on the right hand side if Porro is playing there !

Probably fair to give Rich first half of the season to step up his finishing, which he hopefully could do by consistently being first choice. It does concern me though that he is so much less clinical than Kane. Because as of right now, I am not convinced that him and Maddison combined will replace Kane’s goal output.

How can you be not convinced, when Richie and Madderson haven't even played 5 minutes in the same 11 yet? Our greatest fears sometimes dont come to pass.
I'm going to give Ange and the squad he shapes, time to gel, then judge at the end of the season, it's not worth worrying over things we cannot control.

I’m just waiting for the announcement statements from both the club & Kane, should be an interesting read 👀
Naive of you to think they’ll be anything more than bland nothing statements drawn up by grey suited, emotionally neutral, PR people. Neither club nor player will want to cause controversy.

If the ITK is true about the Kane money being used for 2 CH's i think it's a mistake. Might work out okay for a season or 2, but good forwards cost a premium and i wouldnn't tryst Levy to cough up when needed.

Could end up being like when we had a decent team and just neeeded a ST and he bought Pav.

On the contrary, how could that make anybody feeling convinced?

Not being convinced is not the same as dismissing the idea, and I will certainly give the Maddison/Rich combo a chance. But I do have doubts about Rich’s ability to score enough goals, based on his performances at Spurs, Everton and Watford. Time will tell.

Difference being we have a striker already who fits in with how ange wants to play. A back up would be needed, but that was mentioned in the itk also I think.

We'll be able to sign another striker next year if Richarlison/Son isn't working. Surely better we fix what's wrong with the squad while we can rely on two starting internationals up front for 6-12 months?

The current vogue seems to be for a player to do one of those 'goodbye' videos - which i particularly dislike.....if it's so heart breaking to leave, don't fucking leave !

Nobody does. He can't force us to accept less than we want. We can't force him to sign a new contract. Bayern can't force us to sell this window.
He still holds a great hand, it’s hardly any form of suffering for him to play out a few months on the huge salary he is on.

Have a feeling Toney in January is a big possibility
We weren't able to negotiate a fee we were happy with for Raya, who only had 12 months left on his contract. I'd feel fairly certain any negotiation for Toney would be painful.

I am quite certain that Postecoglu never expected every piece of his rebuild jigsaw would be put in place immediately this window.
I am also certain he knew Kane leaving was likely, he's not been living on the moon after all.
These two things taken together mean he will have priorities and in time will bring in the players to finish the job.
Why do I point out this bleeding obvious set of circumstances? Because it seems as though that's not good enough for some people who want it all done straight away.
Its the end of an era and the new era will develop done properly.

Sort the defence. Sonny, Richy, Kulu, Maddison from midfield. We'll create enough to win games. If Kane does go we have the ability to sort the defence properly this summer. Not doing so would be a deliberate choice.

You think his value will stay the same when he's under a 5 year contract? To get him out of there is going to cost a fortune. Besides if he really wants to stay in England he would just stay out his final year.
Kane could put in his personal terms that Bayern must accept 80 mill from an English club after a year. No way we can stop that.

It’s not so much the controversy I’m looking forward to seeing, it’s how they try to spin it, as we all know the true reason why he’s decided to leave.
