Two days off and goes to Rovaniemi? Odd choice.

Not really. I’ve just come back from Lapland and it’s the closest airport (an hour or so away). He could be just taking his kids there. Although they’re a bit too young for it if you ask me.

They were given two days off.

I really don't get this. Mourinho has moaned he hasn't been able to work with the players on shape and tactics as we've had a game every 3 days for his first 3 weeks, and then he gets a full week with them and he lets them go off on mini-breaks. A two day break in Finland is not really a rest, it has 2 flights in 2 days for starters. Jose should have had the first two days at Hotspur Way that was all low key recovery and massage, with inside tactics sessions / videos / presentations as a group, and then hit the training ground hard Weds / Thurs / Fri to put into practise all his learnings on shape and tactics.

You've got to remember these are young men with families who unlike most won't get to spend any time at Christmas with them. I didn't see the harm in a few days where you can offer it. As we have seen squad morale is clearly a more important factor than training anyway!

I get that, but then Jose should not moan he does not get time with the players on the training pitch and make out that is the one thing holding him back.

All of this is true . However it is a tad strange when you consider Jose was saying how happy he was that he , at last ,he had the team for a few days this week to start with his training ideas.

I also agree that players cramming long distance 2 day break holidays in this period is the very opposite of preparing for an important match . Long flights will have all sorts of negatives for a trained athlete .

Oh well , Jose is experienced and knows his job . A low intensity performance on Sat tho ...wouldn't be good

I agree with you in terms of training, but honestly, the flight is 3.5 hours. It’s not far and he won’t of had to put up with flying British airways there either. He’d most likely of had his own plane I suspect. The time difference is 2 hours so makes no difference. The air is so clean there too, so the health benefits of that probably outweigh the staying in London for two days!

Think it's great that Jose is giving them a few days rest before an extremely hectic christmas period. They look like they have needed a rest all year.

For all we know this could have been arranged with the club months ago. Jose would look like a total prick if he came in and cancelled their time off.

People shouldn't pay so much attention to everything our manager says.

Just think the players would have been better off getting massages / treatment etc. and have Jose show them presentations of where he wants them to be on the pitch in different scenarios, as a team etc. Would have been a better use of time. More rest. More tactics. Better team.

These are young men being paid £5-10 Million pounds a year to do a 3-4 hour day. They see a lot more of their families than the average worker.

I do get it, having a couple of days off is great, recharge the batteries etc. Just seems that with Chelsea at the weekend this was a chance to really enhance our tactical set up. I am sure Jose knows what he is doing, a lot more than I do at least!

In my opinion football is a lot more mentally draining than physically. I have friends that log more hours of training between jobs and kids than any Spurs player would do during a year. But I don't have any friends that need to be pumped up for a top level football game every 3-4 days.

I wouldn't have traveled to Finland for a short break, but I can see the value of getting away from it all. Even I get this "tired" feeling on Friday after a week at work - that obviously got nothing to do with any physical tiredness.

Weird how aggressive people are when the simple disconnect between Jose saying at last he has time to work with his players this week ...

...and then gives them days off instead.

People need to calm down (check out recent Taylor Swift song of same name :D) . Personal attacks are deemed necessary for such a minor and obvious observation ,why is that ?
