He will be sorely missed, but my god it would have been 10 times worst if it had happened in the conte/Jose era. Management styles and tactics geared towards one or two star players and an over reliance on a top goal scorer to bail you out on s counter attack or moment of brilliance. You can see in two games that Ange will want the whole team to contribute and whilst Kane would attempt and eventually shine in any system we have an opportunity to get over his loss quicker this time around

I completely agree. When people here say we would have been relegated without Kane what they have in mind are Mourinho and Conte’s teams. They’re imagining what a disaster those teams would have been without Kane. But frankly that says more about Mourinho and Conte’s failures than anything about how Ange might do this season without Kane.

Conte & Mourinho are world class managers and they’ll assess their squads accordingly

Since we build the shiny new stadium our 1st XI squad has gone to shit. Trying to get the ball to Kane & Sonny asap and setting up around them was pretty much our only options

We no longer had great holding players or ball players like Dembele/Modric/Eriksen or a fantastic defence with Toby/Jan/Danny/Kyle

Some people still don’t realise how ordinary and stale our football team had become

All this big club, and what a big club would do with a star player, what they would do is build a team around them with quality players.

What we have done is chop and change managers, including some utterly disastrous appointments, restart endless plans seemingly with little direction. Added to this an awful lot of s*** to below average players. Leading to said star player thinking i’m better of elsewhere. That’s a cycle that’s been repeated at Spurs for way too long, mainly due to piss poor management at the top.

Levy is so reactionary, there is so little plan going on it’s embarrassing at times. The whole Kane situation maybe full focus now but it’s roots go way back.

I have absolutely zero confidence in Levy at this point, I wish the new manager all the luck in the world and I hope he get us playing some bit better football, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves he hasn’t managed a competitive game for Spurs yet, let alone in the Premier League. Finger crossed he does well but he has the shadow of Levy looming over him and that’s not something i’d wish on any manager.

This isn’t the thread for it but if their big idea was to get the ball up to Kane we may as well have saved ourselves some money and appointed someone like Allardyce.

It seems like Ange will start this season with largely the same squad as Conte, so let’s see.

I really get that thought process, I really do. Just can't see us replacing his goals. If Ange manages to sort the defence and spread Kane's output around what he has then great and I know that's the plan..... but where would we have been if Kane went last season? With the way our squad downed tools for previous managers (sorry for drifting off topic again) regardless of whether fans likes said managers, we'd of been f**ked without Kane and his goals..... Sadly the Kane stay or go debate is far too complex than it should be.... Thanks Danny😞
Yeah but that's assuming Kane scores 30 goals again this season. Prior to last season his season goal tallies were 17, 23, 18, 17 - very decent but not irreplacable. And what got his goals up last season was largely an increased focus on set pieces and headed goals (he broke the PL record for most in a season), which I doubt we'll replicate under Ange.

Not trying to downplay Kane's brilliance because he's obviously world class and his all round play + assists in those other seasons was fantastic but if the system doesn't suit him then there's certainly no guarantee he waltzes to 30 goals again. And if he gets 17-23 that's really not too different from what I'd expect from Richarlison as a starting number 9.

Richarlisons stats tell us he’s a 1 in 3 merchant so you’ll be lucky to get 15 league goals out of him - more like 10/12

Haven't got time today to read through all of this. Has there been news that he is definitely off then? Thanks.

Both Mourinho and Conte played awful defensive football which highlighted out weaknesses and played into opponents hands. Kane's goal scoring kept us afloat. We were continually set up with 2 in CM and were almost always outnumbered and couldn't get control of games. Mourinho had us camped deep in our own half with our flaky defense always under pressure. Conte stuck rigidly to the same failing plan. If they'd assessed their squads as you suggest they'd have realized pretty quickly that both of those approaches were asking for trouble. World class managers would have changed things up. They both let us down badly imo, especially when you take their salaries into account.

What page did you get to, 2?

I don't want to spoil it but he scores quite a few goals.
I think 10 or 15 since I last looked in.

I just wanted to know if there was any definite news or ITK that he's leaving us or if it's just the same few points regurgitated over and over. (y)

How is it possible Bayern and Kane have agreement in place if we did not allow Kane to even talk to them?
Come on, surely you dont think clubs absolutely have no contact with players.
The same rumours are there for us, with regards to Van De Ven, Tapsoba etc etc, wages will not be an issue. Thats because we have already spoken to their agents or an intermediary

Personally... still not sure why Madrid isn't making a move. Perfect replacement for Benzema.

I guess they are waiting for Mbappe.

Kane seems to have looked a bit less comfortable in Ange's system than many of the other players, and has been found out of position quite a lot.
I'm sure he'd "get it" but if you take pre season in isolation, you're starting Richarlison over him solely based on what we've seen so far.

I'm not insinuating Richarlison is "better than Kane" but I think Richie has traits better suited to what Ange probably wants in his striker role.

Just hope the situation gets resolved asap.

It's becoming a huge drag.

I stuck some itk from prof in the itk thread a couple of days ago. Long story short, Kane thinks he’s been told he’s leaving.

Well he scores 1 in 2 as a 9 for Brazil and has never had a full season playing as a 9 in the PL - he's usually shifted between roles, and largely played for pretty negative, bottom half clubs.

I've been critical of Richarlison before but I think he's probably good for at least 15 league goals if he's our first choice and starts most games. Especially if he's on pens.

This is where the myth of Levy being a great business man falls down. Trying to eke out a few more million may lead to a more disruptive season , a disgruntled manager and squad. All of which will cost more than the extra 10-20 million he’ll get by leaving it to the last minute. Just buy the two cents halves, sell Kane ( if he won’t sign) for 85 million or so and get a replacement in. Then sell Hoijberg, Reggy, Dier, Sanchez, Ndombele etc for whatever we can get for them. Players are worth what another club is willing to spend not what Levy thinks they’re worth. Over simplified I know but Levy overcomplicates it. Get a move on baldy.
