From Kane himself

but if Tim Sherwood hadn’t come in, who knows where I would be now? It could have been different.
I could have gone on another loan, ended up with another team. I took my chance, but I’m sure a lot of other players don’t even get that.

Tim Sherwood, the Tottenham manager who gave Kane his break last season, says that one of the questions he was constantly asked about the player at his former club was, ‘Is he Champions League?

I have to say, that seems very believable.
But Kane himself wouldn't know what the hierarchy thought of him necessarily or what the long term plans were

He would only have known that AVB wasn't playing him and he was being sent out on loan - Sherwood gave him a run in the first team so it's natural for him to talk about what ifs (especially if a question was posed to him in such a fashion) given the nature of first team football

As for the is he Champions League questions - it may have been more in relation to the here and now and whether or not he was ready to be the first choice

It doesn't mean he wasn't held in high regard or that he would have been sold - might have just wanted to take it slower and blood him in when he's ready (as in to reach CL in the here and now do we need someone else before he's ready to take over)

It says something however that after Sherwood departed and before Harry had really announced himself in the first team we didn't make moves to sign an upgrade first team striker (although they may have hoped Ade would have another season like he did when on loan under Harry)

I agree though, if the Sherwood quote is an accurate reflection of what the higher powers at the club were asking him it may well indicate we felt we needed better in the first team

5 goals in 3 games for the boy, could get a third player of the month in a row as there are now more PL games left in March. Obviously the bindippers will be up in arms, claiming one of their players should get it.

I have to say, that seems very believable.

They made reference to the CL thing on the radio and Clark Carlisle suggested it highlighted the problem with the club constantly aiming too high and having ideas above our station without willing to put the groundwork in place to achieve it.

He commented on the fact that we have no right to demand CL standard players or managers based on the fact we have been there once.

He also said that we got lucky with Kane rather than specifically trying to push him and that he saved our bacon after wasting money trying to find a 20 goal a season striker and having one in the youths all along.

Sadly I agreed with most of what he said.

Why anyone thinks levy wouldn't listen to a gigantic offer for Kane is beyond me. Just because he was born up the road makes no difference. Something stupid like 80 million again would certainly ask questions. The stadium and building Spurs future comes way before players

£80million. FFS. At least be realistic- that will never happen.

Levy can fuck right off if he sells Kane. This will turn the fans against him and the board if he sells kane anytime soon. I couldn't give a flying fuck if madrid offer 60 million in the summer. I don't want him sold because he is priceless.

After years of struggling to find that top class striker since berbatov we have now finally found a goal machine and he is one of our own. He is Spurs through and through so we should building our team around him for years to come like chelsea did with lampard and liverpool did with Gerrard.

There is no reason why he can't become a Spurs legend like those guys. I am fed up of building something up with Spurs then taken a step back. It's about time we show some ambition and keep our best players at all costs for once. Also I want money spent on class that will improve us and no cheap alternatives ie fazio and Stambouli. Levy has one last chance to get it right this summer

i agree, give it 2 years it will be 100m

He is the most complete striker in the world imho, sure he hasn't got the genius of Ibrahimovic or Van Basten but he is prolific, works harder than anyone in football, and is only 21

Keeps up the momentum he is going to be a worldbeater

I'd say that we made our own luck with Kane. He was trained by us, sent on loan to develop, he's been given tasters of first team football for the last three or four years playing for at least three different managers in that time. The only suggestion that we tried to get rid of him seems to be a misinterpretation of comments from Sherwood when he stopped Harry going on loan last January.

I think the point was that this wasn't a played that we drip fed into the squad and made a clear effort to bring into the first team.

Redknapp started the process. AVB abandoned him and if it wasn't for AVB getting sacked and Tim coming in I believe he may still be out on loan.

Apparently Levy told someone if a Club came in and offered 42.7 million for Kane he'd sell him in a heart beat.

The bloke in question was shocked looking but Levy just winked and said he applied the same formula to every player that emerges into that top class bracket.

Yup, fucking ridiculous. It's his first season, so how the hell can he be the most complete in the world when has not even had a full season and don't know if it is a one season wonder.

Yes, he is doing great... Most complete striker in the world... ffs :(

And this is exactly what I mean, just completely OTT and not even within the bounds of reality.
