Apologies for the very late promised post mortem of the Tranfer window from my end. I have had a few issues to sort out and not had much time to get on here.
At the start of the TW I was told we would be buying quality and not quantity, well we certainly bought quality as for quantity I think that came down to opportunities that presented themselves and the club bought when they could, the Willian saga was a good example.
Some of you will remember I backed the signing of Soldado and keeping Bale at first with my bollocks and then with a £50 donation to SC. I was told of a list of targets and Soldado was high on that list, even when some on here doubted we would sign him I was 100% certain he would be ours after being told by two seperate sources.
As for Bale, at the start of the window, the club were extremely confident of keeping him and were in the process of proving to him our ambition by the players we were starting to buy. The club were expecting up to £50m bids which they were adamant that they would turn down. The stakes were raised when Madrid upted the bid to £86M, but even then the Board doubted that Madrid could fund the transfer and on our terms. It was only the last week that the club recieved confirmation that Madrid could find the funds even then another bid was received, believed to be PSG, but Bale wasn't interested. That was why I was still confident that Bale would stay until the last few days of the window.
As for the special big signing on the final day, well I was given a name and passed on to the mods (after the window shut). I have been told depending on circumstance of the player's club come January we may go back in for him so I am not naming him here. All I will say that a £50m bid was made 2 weeks before the end and agreed by the player's club, but the player wanted to stay for the time being and apart from Blake Griffin everyone on here would have been dancing naked down Tottenham High Road if he would have come, but still some hope, my fear is that unless this could be done under the radar then we will lose out to one of the big boys. As far as I know none of the media got a whiff of this and the club did really well in keeping this in house, I was threatened with death if it got out! .
I made a comment about Baldini being on the Beach for the rest of the year after such activity, but I am told he is still doing a lot of work, especially with the one above and youngsters. so expect some activity in January.
The club tried desperately to get rid of Adebayor, but he didn't want to go hence training with youngsters. All of the activity was planned and part of AVB's project i.e.young players who will serve the club for a few years. I also wanted to say that I have been told we would have spent big even if Bale had stayed, the net spend is a bit of a coincidence. and still leaves us with money to spend next year.
