I think it's reasonable for people to have reservations about signing someone who's looking for a move less than six months after signing a four-year(?) contract at a new club. I know I would have been feeling more positive about signing him in the summer, when he was a free agent, than I do now. He certainly has the potential to be a very good player in the PL, but those of us who don't follow him closely are wondering what's going wrong for him at Barca.
Barca don’t play him or pay him haha

Are they still in trouble?
I thought they sold off years of TV rights to be stable for the short term.

If they are looking to turn players over by signing them on a free, they won't make much on selling for £13m with agent fees and signing on bonus ect.
They got dumped out of the CL so will need to plug that hole in their finances this season. If the fee is that low it could be that they see his wages as the bigger issue.

But after only 5 months? Surely there's other options?

A lot of similarities with Emerson Royal's transfer. That's another one that they forced out for a little profit.

Would he have offered any more creativity today if he was part of our squad?

Genuinely asking as I've never seen him play

I guess no one today here will question why we are looking to sign him....

Bar Bentancur, our midfield isnt good enough - thats the reality. Bissouma has potential but Conte isnt trusting him much

I had been questioning why we are looking to add another CM but today just highlighted why. Højberg isn’t good enough, Bissouma looks a shadow of the player he was at Brighton and Skipp is injury prone/Conte doesn’t trust him

with no Bentancur there is zero ball progression in the CM, the lack of ideas on the ball stymies our play so much especially when our wingbacks are so limited

So , what you are saying is we don’t actually have any of the players we’d need to play Conte’s style successfully? One response, certainly, would be to buy a new squad. It’s not the only response…

I think they only signed him because he was free.

Interesting that we're being linked with many centre midfielders. I wonder if Skipp goes on loan.

I don't think they even particularly wanted him. They got him for 0 and have paid him 2m(?) in wages so far and can flog him off for 15m (?) or so. That's not a bad bit of business and is a fuck load better than we managed with Ndombele and GLC.

This definitely reeks of Barcelona signing a player for free knowing he has high sell-on value and can help to ease some of their financial woes.

Would people be mad to see Kessie in, Hojbjerg out this window?

If Kessie is acquirable for €15m as rumoured, and Hojbjerg leaves for €25-30m, then it’s a no brainer for me.

Good deal for both us and Barcelona.

While we’re at it perhaps we can do a straight swap of Emerson for Lenglet.

Out of interest, who do you suppose would pay 25-30 for Hojbjerg?

Wouldn't be keen tbh. It's taken months for Bissouma to grasp what's expected of him in the 'Conte system', and the upshot of that is that he's a pale shadow of the player he was at Brighton. If Kessie did the same he'd be a waste of money. Conte seems to be stifling all of the natural ability our players have in favour of some robotic formula at the moment and the results, both visually and statistically are pretty dreadful. At least we know what we've got with Hojbjerg.

Far be it from me to disagree with you freeeki but I disagree with you on pretty much qll points.
Not fussed about Jessie, don't want Lenglet.

I’m on board with Kessie around that price. We need more experienced players that Conte trusts to play. Conte’s faced this guy plenty in Serie A so you’d expect he’s signed off on the transfer if it were to happen.

Biggest problem we have is a bench full of young players that we don’t use and therefore also can’t develop because Conte doesn’t trust them. Tanganga, Skipp, Sarr, Gil, Spence, etc. all need loans / transfers out or all parties will continue to suffer.

PSVs Ibrahim Sangare would be the better option imo.

Only yesterday iirc we heard Conte say we don't have players that can beat a man.

Sangre is a strong, capable dribbler. He won't be passing about with sideways, backwards passing either. He'll be looking for quick balls out to wings, or driving forward to break the lines.

Great in the defensive element also, he really would improve our midfield imo.

Kessie likes to run around and achieve next to nothing. Don't see him as improving us whatsoever.

I'd think that Kessie would want more wages, but would be a lesser fee. So maybe the numbers for either wouldn't be too far apart.

At a year younger, and looking far superior. Sangare all day long for me.

Very wary of going back to Barca after they dumped Emerson with us, never been overly impressed with Kessie, though not seen a lot of him.
Don't mind if we are after him because he is someone we want and need, but if it's another case of middle of the road but cheap then what's the point?

Don’t know anything about Sangare but I’m with you on Kessie - it’s a big no from me.
