Tottenham could become the ninth Premier League team to come under foreign ownership with a Middle East syndicate ready to make a move for the club.
While the Dubai-based group is unwilling to go public with its intentions, contact has already been made with Joe Lewis, head of the ENIC investment group which owns 82 per cent of the north London club.

Bahamas-based Lewis, who lost £400m from his personal fortune following the collapse of American investment bank Bear Stearns earlier this year, is understood to be considering selling Spurs when the time is right.

A sale of Spurs could probably fetch around £250m at this stage, with the club now established as a European performer having qualified for the UEFA Cup for the third year running.

But Lewis and his partner, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, are looking for considerably more as they believe the value of the club will double over the next few years.

That valuation would be viable if new boss Juande Ramos, who has been given a major show of financial support by the captures of Croatian schemer Luka Modric and Barcelona youngster Giovani Dos Santos, can fulfil his aim of taking the club into the Champions League.

The Dubai syndicate - unrelated to Liverpool suitors DIC, who are still locked in a tug of war for the Anfield club - want to buy Spurs having passed on the opportunity to invest in Manchester City before the club was bought by Thaksin Shinawatra.

COME IN NO. 9
The eight other Prem clubs in foreign ownership..

Aston Villa: Owner Randy Lerner inherited the MBNA credit card fortune.

Chelsea: Roman Abramovich bought Blues in June 2003. Made fortune in oil.

Fulham: Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed is 75.
Liverpool: Owners George Gillett & Tom Hicks.

Manchester City: Thaksin Shinawat ra, 5 8, took ownership in July 2007.

Manchester United: American Malcolm Glazer, 80, inherited his father's wholesale jewellery business.

Portsmouth: Owner Alexandre Gaydamak is a friend of Roman Abramovich.

West Ham: Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson has owned Hammers since last December.

I just posted this in the SC front page thingy... (My opinion only)

Levy is trying to build a "footballers wives" mansion in Vineyards Rd, Cuffley, Herts by knocking two properties into one. (Having a bit of bother with the local authority though)

This would be about 10 minutes drive away from Capel Manor where the new training ground will be located and about 25-30 minutes to WHL (obviously not on match day!)

Hardly the act of someone getting out of the business.

As a traditionally owned and run jewish interest I could not see them easily selling to a middle east/Arab consortium. If we are up for sale it'll be a russian or american Tycoon and probably a nice jewish boy too like comrade Abrahmovic

TCO, Levy won't cease to be a Spurs fan if he sells up and will want to live the life of a yddisher boy made good living close to friends in the north of London.

You're kidding right?

Canary Wharf, one of the most jewish firms I've worked for (we shut down for the Sabbath an hour before sunset on Fridays and only opened an hour after sunrise on Sunday) is part owned by arabs (Saudi prince actually).

Where money in involve religion fucks off. Fact!

and is Spurs are so Jewish why sell pork pies etc at the ground?

We're as jewish as the scum or any other club. There maybe loads of Jewish supporters but as a club, we're a business.

I didn not know that, although is it not true that Spurs are a bit more emotive as an interest than over seas finance companies etc. I'm pretty sure within Alan Sugars remitt for a buyer he had a strong prefernce for keeping it in "the family" so to speak. Things could change and I'm under no illusions and wouldn't be totally suprised by anything in football these days but i'm still alining myself to the opinion that Levy and Enic if they were to sell it would be to another company that is at least partly controlled by jewish investors.

The pork pie one is easy to answer. If the Spurs crowd include non-practicing Jews then feed them pig, it makes no great difference to thier path to Utopia

Maybe a practicing Jew would be able to clarify the laws and differnces between injesting, handling and associating yourself with the sale/use of pig meat?

Write to tescos and ask them.

More importantly I didn't know they sold pork pies in the ground, I only go o the bar, do they sell them in the park lane?

As for the thread itself even if this syndicate is real the answer is in the story. £250m not enough so no worries.

I agree 250mil seems low considering our financial strength as a company and brand.

Prawns aren't kosher either, so the prawn sandwich brigade won't come to us.

Hot dogs and sausages - well there is no meat in them so thats ok.

I so hope that this is not true, ENIC been fantastic at running this club. Considering our ambitions before ENIC compared to now, I feel that Levy and co know what they're are doing. I'm a (minor) shareholder, i got a minimal number of shares as a christmas present many years ago under the Sugar reign, and under ENIC we have spent considerably more money on players, increased are profitibility and shareprice at the same time. I have the feeling that like the Glazers at manure, as ENIC are a sports company they know how to run a sports club/franchise well. I would not want it to fall in the hands of some speculators whom may well drain every pound from the club, mismanage it and then sell the club soon after leaving chaos at the club.

ENIC have done well so far - but not amazingly - 1 trophy in what - 7 years - 2 5th place finishes -it's fairly standard spurs fare over the past 50 years -

Maybe someone else could do better - maybe worse - we have to trust that ENIC sell for our benefit as well as theirs - luckily Levy is a fan so that reassures me

Have replied like this on the front page as well, but here it is again.

The mirror journo's are the laziest damn hacks out there. This is made up rubbish yet again from them.

Just today they have another story running about Everton chasing Engelaar - that would be the same Engelaar who has already agreed to join Schalke!!!

The mirror comes across as if it's a bunch of 12 yr old school kids writing their articles, which given their target audience is not suprising really.

IMO this is complete bullshit, especially given the £250m quoted, what a joke......

I really hope this is just usual papertalk bullshit. Levy and ENIC are doing a great job and I really don't want that my beloved club would be owned by some ***** who don't really love football and don't know anything about English football. They just want to own an English club, because it is "fun" and a must among billionaires these days. They just mess things up like Thaksin or even Abramovich.

What a crock of shite!

Levy/ENIC and Co have invested heavily over the last year in the managerial set up, aswell as playing staff, with more investment mooted.

Why on earth would they want to sell up now, when Tottenham Hotspur is potentially on the brink of great things, which would see the club's share price rocket?

It makes no sense at all
