If it wasnt for a bad back, I’d be walking back to my car in the pissing rain now - every cloud and all that

If Lloris doesn't fuck that up and we take our chances we would have won this comfortably. It didn't look as bad as against united but when our gameplan goes out the window there is no plan b more than hopeful balls forward and some Vio magic.
If's, buts, and maybe's. Football games aren't won that way.

Genuine question, can any of our tactically savvy posters explain why our play clicked so well towards the end of last season but now our play looks god awful even with an patented Antonio Conte pre-season?

We often hear that "we do not have the players for his system".
Too many square pegs for round holes has been the story.
Perhaps it's time to change the holes, not the pegs?

When a manager takes over a new side, the main focus must be to bring the best from the squad he has at his disposal. Atleast for a start.
But I see no sign of that. The Son/Kane partnership was the best in the league. Look at it now.

His stubborness will be his undoing.
Football is a team game, this also counts for the manager.
Antonio "my way or the highway" Conte - I am starting to have some doubts.

Without Conte we wouldn't have Romero, Kulusevski, Bentancur, Richarlison and so on... so it's not true that we haven't progressed under him... I know it's not pretty on the pitch at the moment. But maybe we should take a deep breath and don't panic for once... the World Cup is coming and then january were we will have another chance strengthening vital positions.

Well, we have 2 more games this week, with not a great amount of time to prep and Antonio will need to get the players mentally ready for them. I look forward to seeing how he tries to turn this around and hope he does because this current iteration of the team is shockingly ineffective and risk averse.

That was Steve Bruce football. He may as well go during the world Cup break. Nothing of value hais being achieved.

Opposition managers have figured it out and Conte is refusing to adapt accordingly.

Usually wait about 12/18 hours to air my thoughts and let the dust settle.

But that was worrying tonight. I knew the poor performances while winning weren't sustainable, but I honestly expected us to have improved enough by now to start playing better, and I know we are missing Kulu and Richy as options (and PEH and Romero were out today as well), but it doesn't excuse what we watched tonight.

We started well and looked like we were on the front foot but Newcastle looked dangerous on the counter too. Cue a brain fart from Hugo and yet another defensive error leading to a goal. We know have the most errors leading to goals in the league. For a team that has aspirations such as ours that is simply not good enough.

Something needs to change, and it needs to change quickly because I am now worried about what is going on with the team and the squad. Not one sub made any impact of note either. We are far too easy to play against, it's far too easy to shut off the lines to our CMs and our wing backs are not strong enough to progress the ball forward quite obviously.

The way we play, if we don't score first I worry about our ability to get back in the game. We just don't create enough at the moment. Maybe that's down to personnel missing or it's the way he's asking the players to play. None of us know.

I still think he's the right man for the club but I'm interested to see how he gets the team and players going after the last 2 spineless performances.

I know there will be a lot of messages tonight / tomorrow saying Conte out or something similar but i genuinely don’t think that is the answer.

We have a large amount of players who are simply just not good enough. The likes of Lloris, Dier, Sanchez, Davies, Doherty, Emerson, Sessegnon, Moura, Gil are quite simply just not good enough.

We have a distinct lack of quality in key positions and then if you take out Romero, PEH, Deki and Richarlison we are a million miles behind the quality required for even top 4.

I would actually state that I would replace the entire back 6 from tonight’s game in an instant.

Namedropping of unpopular players has never saved a manager, not with Spurs, nor anywhere else. Our squad was easily superior compared to Newcastle, yet we lost at home. We were uninspired on 2nd half and it wasn't down to material. This one is all down to Conte. His style is dire and if he doesn't deliver, there is no point to him as Spurs manager

I haven't written on here in ages but felt the need to come on. I was a Conte fan and his football works in Italy and maybe England 10 years ago but not anymore.

I'd love him to turn it around and make us a hard to beat great attacking team but he won't. I'd be happy if pochettino came in tonight.

Some will say I'm jumping on the bandwagon but it's actually been bad all season we just scraped a few results. If he's still in charge when we play arsenal it's going to be hard to watch

Conte's system can work.

We have very average defenders and goalkeepers.
Newcastle have ~3 players in their starting XI today that would get into our first XI and they play considerably better football than us. We can’t just keep calling every player that comes through our doors average.

Conte’s football is the biggest problem.
