Another GLARING issue for me. THAT BENCH.

Do NOT tell me Poch is happy with the youngsters. There was a reason none of them were brought on at the end. Anybody saying our squad depth is fine is being naive.
To be fair Son is at the Olympics and Clinton's future uncertain. Looks like Chadli is off.

If Chadli and Clinton go which seems likely then someone else will come in imo.

Second half more like it. Great choice now for cm/cdm to be able to take our best in Dier off and still keep up the tempo. Poch is paid the big bucks so he must know something we cant see. It worked and we nearly won. And Janssen made a big difference too. Looking forward to him playing more. Hope Loris is ok. Overall not a bad start.

Hate football. A draw isn't even a bad result after the first half but that Janssen opportunity will be stuck in my mind all week.

Eriksen, Wanyama and Alli all need to improve, they were shocking.

What? Wanyama had a decent game.

Swap Wanyama for Kane and i'd agree with you

1-1 fair result I feel. Everton had the better the of first half and we had the better of the second.

Few positives. But, Lloris injured and Alli poor stood out to me. Janssen changed the game and nice to see we have a plan B. Lamela off the mark already, like many I felt this was going to be his season. Great start for him.

We looked rusty. Alli, Eriksen and even Rose had below par games I thought.

Lots of positives though and we'll grow into the season. Nothing really to worry about at all (aside from Lloris' injury).

I thought Rose, aside from a couple of dumb moments looked really good defensively. Does need to get those crosses improved though

Think Janssen had a great substitute. Got himself in great positions, involved and ran like his life depended on it. Won't see me complain if Janssen get a start ahead of Kane next match based on form
He should start ahead of Kane next game imo. He gets more involved and is more of a team player from what I have seen so far.

And that Janssen chance - it was stuck under his feet and couldn't get proper contact, plus Stekelenburg made a worldie save.

One point up on last season!

Looking back at our goal Lamela pressed high caused Everton to turn the ball over leading to his goal.

Excellent play.

Too many off the pace today, need to get up to speed sharpish. When you're not the quickest attackers you can't afford to be a fraction off the pace.

Better second half in that a few of them got their heads around the game and we started playing competently. Great header from Lamela to get us back level.

A point away vs. Everton is respectable, a stuttering performance though and I hope we are now ready to go into the season switched on and about our business.

I think we were a bit lucky to get something out of the game today, a a fully fit Everton side and I think it's game over. We have been linked with creative midfielders, I believe Poch knows what we need. Hopefully we can get someone in before Mitchell leaves.

I don't think Poch was unwilling to use them, but we had made two subs, and you can easily get someone pinging a muscle on the first game of the season, so he probably wanted to keep one in reserve.

We were infinitely better after going to one DM, and a draw at Goodison isn't a terrible result. That being said playing with a one man central midfield doesn't seem like a sustainable strategy. We have to figure out how to play without Dembele somehow.

Agree, I really think Winks should be given a chance. Think he could be key.

Also really didn't think Dele played that bad, not great, but like a 5 1/2 out of 10. In the first half I don't think it was our front 4 that was the main problem. It was the lack of a midfielder to connect the pieces together. First half was a bit like France at the start of the Euro's, a team which is happy with just sitting back and defend needs players who can move into attacking positions and essentially challenge the defensive positioning. Again our team is found to be lacking against well organised teams with 5 at the back, who our able to stifle our attack and stretch our defense (basically if you pin our fullbacks, we become static). We need to find a plan B.

I forgive Poch in this occasion because we had no idea how they would set up, and we had no idea at all that they would be so defensive. I like to think Poch would of played a different team had he known. Always the problem when facing new managers at the start of the season.

We NEED a quality CM and a quality AM. I'm fine with losing N'Jie if needed but I am not fine with losing him for someone like N'Koudou whose another unknown, relatively inexperienced player. That's very much like for like, IMO. We need tested quality right now. We have 2 very big competitions to contend with.

Lamela looks like he may well be our best player this season - Janssen and Wanyama had decent debuts.

Alli, Eriksen and Kane not at the races at all and need to get their act together very quickly.

The thing is our team at the end was working,to put another player on can easily disrupt the system as much as help it. Not sure it was a lack of options he trusts, more that he probably felt we didn't need a change and that it could easily backfire.

Yes, we need a player that is going to genuinely battle Eriksen/Alli for their positions. Both need an anally-supposited rocket.
