Everton have held further talks with Tottenham over midfielder Harry Winks but a deal is not advanced. The Toffees would prefer a loan option while the 26-year-old has been discussed a makeweight in a deal for the club's talismanic striker Richarlison. Spurs are looking to make Winks' exit a permanent one, given how he only has two years left to run on his current contract.

Loan's no good to us with only 2 yrs on his contract unless it's for major money (like 40 - 50% of his current value).

Loans should only be for the young up and coming players. If players like Winks, Bergwijn, Emerson, Moura, Lo Celso and Ndombele are not wanted then we need to ship them out otherwise 12 months later they are all back again. If we have to sell them at a cut price then so be it, it's better than paying their salaries and restricting the chance to improve the squad over the next year or two through lack of funds.

Unless they pay us a loan fee as well as covering his wages a loan is of no benefit to us. He’s still featured enough for us that we don’t need to put him in the shop window - everyone already knows what he’s capable of and also his limitations.

Maybe a loan with an obligation to buy a year on could help out their FFP situation while helping Richarlison negotiations, but a straight up loan shouldn’t be on the table.
