Am I missing something, why have an option when he’s going to be out of contract?!

Makes sense, it gets Eric off the wage bill, get gets to play football and should they decide to sign when he's out of contract in the summer we get a fee for it.

So it's a loan just to get his wages off our books until he can leave on a free or Bayern take the option to sign him in the summer with no competition if he does well?

It really feels like an end of an era now that Eric’s gone along with 95% of Poch’s old squad.

I can’t lie it feels a bit sad, but also very exciting for the start of a new one with Ange.

How do Bayern have an option to buy him in the summer if he isn't under a contract? Surely they would have to trigger the clause before his contract expires, presumably on 30 June...

I can’t say I’ve seen that done in practice before on a player who’s contract is running down but if we can recoup anything further than salary saved then all the better!

Regardless, it’s a win-win all round this.

if he does well. There will be competition.
We still get a loan fee. But that’s pretty much the transfer fee anyway. Means he is still a free agent come summer.

So we're only getting a performance-related fee if an appearance clause is met?

That's how it seems when looking at some of the Tweets from today and the loan. At the end of the day, getting the wages off are a success. But if we get a few million on top of that, it'd be a bonus.
