He has every right to do the best for himself and his family. Don't blame him one bit as EVERYONE would do that.

Why I don't get for him is he has every chance to play at the euros next year so he should try and get playing somewhere. Although the with the options left for him now he might as well sit it out until January.

When do we register our squad?

If he would be released now, can he still be registered for another club (outside Turkey/Saudi) right away?
Or would that only be possible if he had become a free agent before the transfer window closed last night?

As I understand free agents can sign for clubs today. Not sure the cut off for clubs to register the squad, and if they don't register a full squad whether they can still take a free agent or not. I'm sure clubs have taken free agents during a season before. Then you have other leagues where the window will be open different times. I have a feeling Dier could move to America.

I suppose we might as well register Dier if we can, but Phillips and Dorrington should be ahead of him in the pecking order, in the same way that Austin is in front of Lloris.

Sets a terrible precedent and incentive for the next lot though doesn’t it?

No pay offs. Id leave Lloris Dier and Tanguy out and make then train alone. Wouldn’t want their mentality anywhere near the squad.

Ange was up front that they weren’t in his plans so it’s their own choice.

We owe them their contracts but not a place in the squad.

Go to Turkey Saudi or don’t play football.

Promote Phillips or play a back 3 with Davies and Emerson if we get injuries.

Hope not, it would be stupid to have 4 defenders on the bench just because they are seniors, rather than have a younger option (Donley, Santiago, Véliz)
It's something Conte definitely would do, but I hope we have a manager that thinks different now. If not most of our talents should just try to get out of here.

Well there we go, we DO have 4 defenders on bench but one of them is Phillips.

So a big bold sign that he has been told that he's properly out of the side. Even more so than putting a non-defender on the bench.

That would be a pretty shit way to treat Dier. Yes he shouldn’t be making the match day squad but he’s still given 9 years of his career to the club and been nothing but the consummate professional. As an employer you need to respect loyalty, not throwing back in someone’s face because you wanna kick them out of the club.

He’s finished here. Time for his fan club to accept it.

You sign a contract to train not to play.

Sport is entirely meritocratic. What you've done in the past is irrelevant to whether you'll be picked today.

Dier once played well for Tottenham because he was good enough.

He's no longer good enough, especially now we play a system which exposes his greatest flaws.

It isn't about being mean or punishing him.

He can't be in the squad because he's no longer fast enough. It's that simple.

We can't change our entire team set up every time Dier takes the field.

He isn't owed anything more than a professional working environment and his monthly contract.

He knows perfectly well the football reasons why he won't play.

His stance on seeing out his contract over playing football, gives Ange every right to say I don't want that around the players I'm moving forward with.

It's sad how it's ended for him, but it's entirely his choice for it to happen this way.

He's chosen making a financial choice (imo a bad one) over sentiment, which he's entitled to do.

But then we're even less obliged to reciprocate that with sentiment. Which we weren't anyway because Sport is meritocratic.

Phillips's the future, Dier the past. Promote him and move on.

Appreciate everything he's done for the club, been a great servant and 100% committed. He's also a really nice guy but it's time to rip that contract up and send him on his way. No chance he's included in the list of players this season. Same goes for Hugo.

Dier is best suited to 3 at the back, and only then when with more experienced defenders.
As we no longer play with that system, it hasnt taken Ange long to decide he has no future here.
As far as i have heard, there have been no other club with strong interest in him, and again doesnt even make the bench.

Surely if we cant get a fee from somewhere like Saudi, we just release him and pay whatever is left on his contract

Just sick of the contingent of fans who are convinced he’s still got a part to play this season. And continue to confuse length of tenure with loyalty.
Posts like this come up regularly. They never make sense to me.

Where is this fan club? Other than some liking his attitude, I’ve seen pretty much no support for him here and pretty much everyone wants him gone.

This site has a history of posters calling people out that don’t appear to exist.

Unfortunately we do still need him even if he is the 5 choice. Phillips might flop and not cope this season.

Yup, in the real world where we all exist and work, most of us know fellow employees with really long tenure.

In truth the vast majority lack ambition or can't find opportunities elsewhere and thus stay put.

with Phillips, Sanchez and Davies possible ahead of him in the CB positions, its unlikely he will get much game time, if he is even registered in the squad.

If that part is ITK @Hotspur88 then it makes even less sense why we didn't move for a CB if we end up not registering Dier anyway.

Kelly was getable but we didn't give Bournemouth enough time / options in the market to replace.

Chalobah seemed attainable.

Various non HG options.

Bizarre.
