Endless vile comments on his page. Why are the vast majority of football fans such mindless ****s?
It really shouldn't happen to anyone, but it is so disheartening when you see it directed at people like Dier or Royal who both seem like truly lovely people off the pitch.

Hate to see the worst in people.

I think people use football as a release, but in the same sense they use it to release whatever is wrong in their life.

In parallel, there is a big mental health crisis bubbling up in the background. Due to a lack of focus and funding, and the impacts of lockdowns and covid.

I also think social media is fueling a lot of it.
Great comment mate. The mental health issues since Covid are the tip of the iceberg.

Yep, my daughter has been on a priority list for anger management for 2 years. She has a lot of issues with trauma, she is about to finally see one.

His instagram has been a bit tech-bro / Spotlas orientated for a long time. Is anyone positive that he had Tottenham in his bio or followed the official account? Might be a load of nothing

Welcome to the social media impressions generation. A whole bunch of 17 year olds whose formative years were spent playing minecraft on their ipads leading directly into a 2 year long pandemic. They never learned how to interact like a normal person.
No offence, but isn't this you.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you seem to be quite venomous on this site.

That’s his Twitter. Which he hasn’t posted on for 8 months anyway.
It’s his Insta, on which he is active, where he has made the changes.

Ooooh ok cheers :)

If it's because of the abuse he gets, well then who can blame him. Your own fans abusing you sums up everything I hate about the UK in the 21st Century.

He has also unfollowed apparently. Given he still Follows Conte and Sporting (as examples), it does seem a bit odd not to be following your own club.

Ange said he was naming his captain today, so he must have had the hump, to not be selected for any role 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hardly surprising though, he’s going to be nowhere near the starting 11, once all reinforcements are brought in.

IF this is because he’s been snubbed for the captaincy and he’s throwing a tantrum, then his reaction to the news just shows why he isn’t fit to be the captain.
He'd have to be very deluded indeed to think he'd be captain given how pre-season has gone and him only having 1 year left on his contract.

Definitely odd. Even odder if that was a deliberate action to make some kind of point, but who knows

He was a good player for us (increasingly distant now), but never the same since that mystery illness, and should have been moved on a long time ago. He's arguably the least suited CB to playing in our current system and it's only going to be painful for him and us if he hangs around

Whatever you think of his playing ability, that would seem — to me — to be very out of character for him.

I think every club has this element. We only know of ours due to social media, forums and going to matches. We know of the Goons cause they monetised it with AFTV.
The funny thing about AFTV is that is was a non-Gooner who came in and monetised it.

I love players like Eric, they always feel like the heart and soul of a club. Same Daws, Mabbs, and Perryman... I've always believed you need them in your team, and just like when Daws moved on, I'll be incredibly sorry to see Dier go. But that's the game. It'll be weird to think only Sonny is left from that CL Final though, right?

He was posting stories in his spurs kit yesterday, it’s probably nothing at all.
He was - pictures of him being the captain. Which may lend to the theory that he thought he was going to be given the captaincy considering the “leadership group” has lost Kane and is imminently going to lose Lloris and Hojbjerg, too. Unless Son was part of it, which I don’t believe he was, the only other remaining member of that group is Skipp who Dier could have feasibly believed he had seniority over.

I really don’t understand why players are abused on social media, when if you have an ounce of understanding most of the players who are targeted actually show up in games, I’d understand it a bit more if the abuse was aimed at a player who is not giving 100%. What happened to Sanchez last season, for the first time in over 40 years as a supporter have I felt ashamed to be one. Don’t do it, it ain’t clever

I would be surprised if Dier is throwing his toys out of the pram over the captaincy.

That would seem out of character.

He may well have been told he has no future at the club and won't feature this season, absent an injury crisis. I can see him feeling hard done by that.

But, surely he knows he is on the outside looking in at a place in the XI, and that would make being captain a difficult choice.
