He’s always going to be scared off the space behind him if he is being relied upon as the central, last defender.

I’ve always felt it was a shame he wanted to be a centre back, I really liked it when he was starting in midfield and would drop back when we were in possession, pushing Jan and Toby wide, pushing the fullbacks into wing back position, pushing the wingers central….gave our build up play an automated movement to get us going and move the opposition around.

I swear he never jumps either... Seems to like standing for headers and gets beat alot. Its a shame but I don't think he can play any position properly anymore.

Wow man. That is shocking ?
I mean Ledley king is rightly a club legend and was a joy to watch him progress from an academy lad to a elite cb despite all the injury problems, and its mad to think Dier has played more games for us than him. Would you say Dier is a club legend? to me just feels like he never actually progressed as a player and is still making the same mistakes newcomers would

Didn't he have to move back there because he lost his already limited mobility for that CDM role? He does generally have the intelligence to know when to push up and when to drop back.
Their 2nd goal, he'd pushed out as he had done successfully last week, we coughed up possession and the interception left us exposed. Not his fault IMO but he's the bogeyman at the moment.
The bigger problem for me is our midfield, everything is exposed because we can't control it

When two pictures says more than a thousands words. 2nd and 3rd goal below.

The first one is where he was pushing up to free up Hojbjerg like last week. A poor pass and lack of desire to get on the ball and Leicester intercepted. Last week it worked well but when you're ponderous and slow in our own build up it leaves you exposed. Not his fault IMHO

He can't leave this club soon enough. Should never wear the shirt again. 8 fucking years, man. He is the personification of the ENIC project and failure.

He's not even Michael Dawson level.

yeah, he did become a bit less mobile, bulking up a bit in process. I just think that limits him as much at centre half and adds to our panicked openness as soon as we turnover the ball and teams come at us.

Agree the midfield doesn’t give any coverage, but the two in there are being asked to cover too much.

Dier isn’t the issue - he just is not good enough if the game asks certain questions of him. If I was a striker I would just think run at him, run off him, run behind him, and you’ve got the beating of him

The funny thing is Poch knew this ages ago and stopped playing him.

Dier wanted to leave the club but Jose convinced him to stay. 4 managers later, he's still here making mistakes over and over again.

We're going to end up bringing Poch back and he'll still be here. Sums up our club. Our back up lb and a utility player from nearly 10 years ago are our main cbs now.

No doubt we are going to be told in the summer we can't bring in any CBs as there's none on the market. Would not be surprised to see Davies and Dier both starting next season as well. We are the only top team that accepts bang average players.

Im a big fan of Dier so some may accuse me of bias, he didnt have a great game against Leicester. It is funny though when we give reasons why players havent played well but when it is players we arent fans of - we disregard the very excuses that we give for others.

Yes he could have and should have absolutely done better - so could the whole team and management.

I dont think he is as bad as others make out. I mean he performed well last week right? We can question his consistency that is fine but he isnt poor.

First goal, wasnt it a pass in to Kane that came back to Iheanacho leaving Dier one on one - not like he could dive in and tackle, mistimed and thats a red card. He gets the shit because he is the last line of defence, but there is a lot of stuff that happens before that. Hence it is a system and tactics issue. He forced the shot from outside the box but it was an excellent finish right in the corner.

Our main issue is that over the last few years we’ve nurtured average players like Dier, Tanganga, Sessegnon, Winks etc. and got them used to posh life at Hotspur Way. Borderline championship level players on nice contracts training at world class facility and playing at world class stadium. No wonder they are so reluctant to leave, its incredible how lucky some of them lot got due to Levy’s incompetence.

First goal he was miles out of position, second goal he didn’t engage and showed Iheancho onto his stronger foot, third goal he was once again out of position.

He is most definitely a poor player. His technique is lacking. Think of when he hacked the ball out for a corner under no pressure against Brentford. His positioning is erratic. He’s a buck passer, he’s regularly seen berating teammates after he’s made a poor decision or error. And he’s been here 8 years. The failure to replace him let alone allow him to go from a squad player to the cornerstone of our defence is emblematic of Tottenhams failures as a club. That someone that painfully average has been allowed to remain so established in the team. Yeah he was fine last week in a purely defensive performance where he just had to block and harry. But ask him to do anymore than that and he’s massively exposed. He’s total deadweight and we will continue to struggle to achieve any semblance of success whilst he’s so ingratiated in the starting XI. And he doesn’t even count as homegrown!

The reason Dier was any good was due to Lloris papering over the cracks for God knows how long.

Terrible and no, like the other lazy ****, Heung Min Son, he does not have any lingering Covid issue.

Him and fucking Davies! Find me another team in the prem that has a player still starting in their team that they bought in 2013 or 2014.
Well Henderson, Azpilicueta, De Gea, Shaw just from the “Big 6” and don’t forget about Kane also.

Zaha, Coleman and Vardy will have been around that long, half the premier league clubs weren’t in the Prem 8 years ago so won’t know much about their players, but anyway there have been plenty of players that have been at all clubs for much longer than the 8 years you required (Gerrard Silva Shelley Giggs, even Mark Noble) just because they have now retired does not mean playing at same club for long time is a bad thing .
So if you want an name of another club that keeps players for 8 years basically, every bloody one of them is your answer

No, you don't get it. Last week he followed Alvarez when he dropped deep. This week, he pushed up leaving Ian completely on his own.

He has to judge when to do it. If his man goes, he goes. If he can't even see his man, wtf is he doing?
