He reminds me of a young Marcel Desailly - the way he looks equally at home at Centre Back or as a Defensive Midfielder.

He's only going to get a lot better too. 21 years old is nothing for a player in that position(s). The future is very bright. Love this squad.

Dier is the shiznit! Just like Sandro, from the very first time I saw him it was clear that he had something! Again just like Sandro he is of those players that other fans will think is rubbish. He is built like a monster, super quick, aggressive as hell, technically accomplished, reads the game really well, great in the air. There really is no limit to what he can achieve. I'll be shocked if he isn't in the squad for the euros as he can cover 3 positions and is certainly good enough at holding mid to get a place for that position alone.
He is as good as stones any day of the week.

Eric Dier hits back at Tottenham’s critics: We don’t choke against big teams
The Tottenham Hotspur defensive says Spurs have proved critics wrong

Eric Dier says Tottenham Hotspur answered their critics with a commanding 4-1 victory over Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.
The north London side looked to be heading for back-to-back defeats following a mid-week loss to Arsenal after Kevin de Bruyne edged City into an early.

We hear stuff said aboutTottenham and I don’t like – and the other boys don’t like it

Eric Dier

However, Dier levelled for Spurs before Toby Alderweireld, Harry Kane and Erik Lamela polished off an emphatic 4-1 win against the two-time Premier Leaguechampions.

And the Spurs defender admitted that the Spurs squad were upset with accusations that Tottenham aren’t capable of winning the big games.

Dier told Spurs TV: “It is a statement. We don’t get the credit we deserve. We are an extremely young squad.

“We hear stuff said about Tottenham and I don’t like – and the other boys don’t like it.

“I just see people saying we choke against the big teams and we don’t put our foot in or grind out a result.

“I think in the last few weeks we’ve proved people wrong.”

Dier has scored two goals in seven Premier League appearances for Spurs this season.

The England Under-21 international moved to White Hart Lane in a £4m deal from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon in 2014.

Already looking better than Scott Parker, just as 'lay it all on the line' but more technically accomplished. No slight on Parker, he had a fantastic 9months or so before he gassed out on us.

Monster who still somehow looks a softie who no doubt loves his nan.

(y)(y)(y)(y)You can just imagine Poch calling home to one side at the beginning of pre season and having the following conversation:

Poch - "do you want to go to the Euros next summer?"
Dier - "yes, of course boss!"
Poch - " do you want to not only go but start?"
Dier - "again, of course, I would love to!"
Poch - "well your going to be one of the first names on my team sheet and by Xmas you would have played for England! Your going to become the English Matic and be the Rock of our team! Your our new CDM!"
Dier - ":stop::unsure:(n)o_O:sneaky:(y), let's have it boss!"
Poch - "oh and your going to be the only player to have started every game for us in every competition by October! Now, let's go make you a star!"
Dier - ":woot:"

No, Bentaleb and Mason are CM's, not CDM's, we have no other CDM's apart from Dier.

Wow what this entire situation has surely shown you is that if you got the skill set you can slot in where needed . At the end of last season would you have said Dier is a CDM . Similarly i think A very good Nabil would make another good CDM

  • He is number 1 on 4 metrics - Aerial duel, clearances, blocks & total backward passes(lowest). In other defensive metrics, he does measure up to others even though not topping them.
  • In summer we wanted Schneiderlin & Wanyama. He is ahead of Wanyama in every measure except Interceptions. Dier can only better with respect to interceptions, as he grows into the role & understands the positioning a bit more.
Regardless, these are remarkable stats for a CB turned DM.

So all we need to do is find another young CB who is similar to him and turn that CB into a CDM...simple.

Think people are underrating Dier's passing in this role. He moves the ball on sharply and quickly. Happy to take just the one touch if needed, and generally looks forward. We genuinely couldn't have bought a better CM this summer.

So come Jan, we will be looking for a CB and a forward? I don't think we need another CM, all credit to Dier, he's class and will only get better.

I've been happy with Dier at dm from early on but we still need a dm, the fact he's on 4 yellows and we have no ideal replacement shows that we need somebody a bit more defensively minded to rotate with.

There was a hell of a lot of negativity after the palace game which was foolish to me, people worrying about the fluidity of the attack because we have him at dm. He's awesome and the attacking fluidity will come once the team has gelled on top of the foundation we have seemingly built.

We have to bench or rest Dier for Swansea game. Last thing we need is Dier to get 5th yellow & become unavailable for Liverpool
