I thought he was superb today, especially with the ball - moving it forward into the front line quickly and efficiently. Shame our attackers had lead boots on today in regards to their touch.

This was Erik's first 'home' game after a long layoff and considering this he was good today. I've not been impressed with him recently when he's played but Saturday for me was an improvement. He is coming back to fitness and will be invaluable in the next few games.
We lost yesterday which is hard to take but we all have to try to get a grip and stop exaggerating. Defeats will come and go but if you look at what we have achieved this season having played at Wembley and battling to the semi-final of the CL, you should be chuffed as a spurs fan IMO.

What the opinion of dier in relation to next season? Starter? Squad player or sold?
Not sure myself maybe squad but I have a sneaky feeling he might be on the listen to offers list???

Impossible to tell from where we are. I would think first team squad if fit. But I’m just guessing, I think Pochettino likes him and he Dier comes over very well in the media and could go far fitness permitting.
Footballing wise quite average but I’m no expert.

Squad player surely. Don't think anyone in their right mind should have him as a starter in midfield.

I wouldn't be against taking big money for him but if not keep him as a squad player and get him to focus on being a CB imo

I’d agree with that.
I like dier and he is good player but I think we could get a better passer and someone more moble in the dm role and he would only be back up at dm and at cb imo as it stands let alone if we hopefully spend in these areas next season.
If we could get 40/50m for him I would begrudgingly take it

I can understand why people think it'd be a good idea to upgrade on Dier, we all see different things.

Personally speaking, I'd be asking this question about Wanyama long before asking it about Dier.

Dier brings leadership to the pitch, can drop in at CB if we want to switch up tactics, could fill in for lengthy spells at CB if injuries required it, he can do RB and he brings steel & an air of 'don't fuck with us' that nobody else brings (maybe Rose). And Poch must rate him, there can't be many players that he's selected more than Dier since he took over at the club?

Wanyama? He plays DM, and only DM, looks like he can't really run anymore & who knows if/when he'll break down again?

So after saying far too much (sorry @dondo ) , I guess the answer to your question is the second option. Then it's down to Poch & Dier after that.

The way I see it with Eric is, decent holding midfielder, potentially a very, very, very good centre half.

He’s built for centre half and with his quality on the ball he’d be classed as something of a baller in that position.

My opinion if we want to reach the next level, sell or merely a solid squad player, bad midfielder, decent centre half (we already have a lot of them)

As long as this season isn't him entering the realms of the likes of Winks, Wanyama, Dembele, Kane and Lamela in terms of fitness and availability, he shouldn't be among those we're looking to move on.

Thought he played really well on Saturday and spread the ball around nicely, switching play quite a few times (something we don't do enough IMO).

All we need to do is bring in some competition. I genuinely have no idea why anyone would want to sell him. He's good more often than he's bad and has traditionally been incredibly reliable in terms of injuries. No chance we would sell both Wanyama & Dier and we all know we need to sell Wanyama.

Berge & Dier is an excellent rotation at DM, let them duke it out for who's best.

Should’ve started with Wanyama imo

We did and did you see him chasing shadows and looking a complete passenger the entire match? He couldn't connect a pass for his life in the first half. Dier played a pretty good game over the weekend and was transitioning defense to attack very well, a tool we were desperately in need of today.

Yea that’s why I put he (Dier) should’ve started WITH Wanyama

According to whoscored.com he weighs 88kg which can't be helping his mobility. Decent squad option. Beginning to think Dembele made him look good a few seasons agao or he's just lacking form, fitness & confidence.

Dier is an underrated player, you need players like Dier in a successful team IMO we have missed him greatly....look how many games we've lost without him.

Doesn't work as hard as he used to. Him stomping around kicking players was the mainstay of his game. There's none of that now. Another victim of being part of the National squad in my opinion.
