He was brought in to just win a cup. It was always going to end the way it did. What a colossal waste of everyone’s time to not even let him have the final.
I have no basis for this statement, but I reckon in Jose’s contract there was a clause to pay him a shit load of money, and Jose would automatically get another 2 years on his contract. Making him harder and more costly to sack. As it was, we sacked him, saved a shit ton of money as it looked like the board wanted rid by this point anyway.

& because he joined Roma not long after, we had limited severance to pay.

..a league cup trophy would have been nice. But would you have paid £30m for it? When all Mason had to do was continue Jose’s ‘methods’ in the final and it was in the player’s hands!?

New GK
Romero De Vrij Lenglet / new LCB
Poro Kante Bentacur Udogie
Deki Kane Son

De Vrij and Kante on frees, Udogie already ours, just need to pay for Poro, a new GK and a LCB.
Kante is finished. That's from my Chelsea season ticket holding mate. Always injured and ineffective when he plays. He'd be happy to see the back of him.

I was talking about which were seen as “big clubs”, not which happened to be successful in the medium term
Your posts are often insightful and informative, but in this case your logic is all over the place and It seems you want to have your cake and eat it.

You talk about the fallacy of the "big six", and claim the Top 4 "existed for decades" before ENIC took over. It's just plain wrong.

Chelsea finished sixth in the two seasons after Enic took over, before Abramovich bought them in 2003. They finished in the top 4 twice in the prior 11 seasons following the formation of the PL. They are a team that has enjoyed "medium term success' by your own definition.

It took Mourinho's back to back titles to entrench their position in the "Top 4", which until then, had never been spoken about given Liverpool's flakiness and the dominance of United and Arsenal. Chelsea, until 2003, were a bang average team for the most part, who were elevated by Roman's laundered money.

If the criteria for size - as you imply - is based solely on wealth, then surely Newcastle and Leicester are "big clubs" given their ownership, or perhaps Blackburn when they were under Walker? Or how about Everton now, given the investment and ownership, despite lack of silverware and poverty of performance?

We all know success - actual trophies - is a bigger driver of perception of club size than pure wealth. City's ascension to the top table only really took hold once they won the PL and the FA Cup the year prior. Chelsea's was due to Mourinho changing the perception of the club by winning the league twice in a row.

You may not have intended it this way, and I don't normally like to call out individual posters, but your original post comes across as patronising and condescending. I thought it was a parody at first tbh, with you declaring your position as "Official Memory of Tottenham that no one else can possibly understand without you explaining it to them - again."

Many fans on here remember the days when Spurs won things, and spent money on top players in their prime like Lineker, Waddle and Gascoigne, and dare I say, Greaves.

It's not too much to ask that we shouldn't always be treated like Oliver Twist begging for "more, please sir" when we ask ENIC to stop throttling investment in the club, given our past record and their record level of income.

That’s exactly what happened, it was leaked afterwards if I remember correctly
Yeah and it was "leaked" by completely random WhatsApp group, no?
It was reported by actually reliable sources that Mourinho will get 1m bonus if we qualify for Champions League that would make club earn 50m or even more. Prize for winning Carabao Cup - the 4th most important competition is only 100k. This claim that he was sacked by Levy to save some money literally makes zero sense when you consider that he was bad coach that lost dressing room, lost 3:0 against City 2 months earlier and didn't beat any top10 team since half of december

If I remember right it the source wasn’t a random WhatsApp group, it was by a former employee of Tottenham and then was circulated. Anyway I’m not advocating that it was reliable as everything should be taken with a poch of salt in football. It just seems to fit perfectly with the type of bollocks that Teflon Dan would do and not really have it come back on him.
