D1 saying we're in advanced talks in the ITK thread. I really hope so, sounds like the ideal 1st choice. Maybe these other Bayer players linked with moves will just push us into gear. Better for them to make 1 big sale then several.

Yeah sounds like we need to offer them a deal that’s a lot better than losing 1 or 2 of their other players. It does seem to have gone quiet on frimpong to Man U for example, so hopefully they are more willing to let this chap go than lose frimpong.

Yeah and if tah is willing to stay another year then it works for them.

Haha I did. Watched him a few times and also mentioned his name at the end of last season as a player I want. He was priced at 25/30m then.

I've seen the obligatory YT vid - damn he looks good. (Hopefully)

As crazy as a signing Maddison will probably prove to be, I 100% agree with you. Our back line needs this level of an upgrade more so than we needed a creative AM.

But getting both over the line this early in the window? Permanentus Erectus indeed.

Totally agree. Looking at our back line its not over the top to say that for next season we need:

GK - VICARIO / Forster
LB - UDOGIE / Davies
LCB - NEW / NEW
RCB - Romero / NEW
RB - Porro / Emerson

So potentially:
Buy - Tapsoba? VDV? Lenglet? Tosin?

Sell - Dier, Sanchez, Rodon, Tanganga, Sessegnon, Perisic, Reguilon & Spence (potentially).

Did Emerson occasionally get deployed at CB last season, or did I imagine that?

If so, that could be a way of solving our need for three CBs, while keeping hold of both Porro and Spence. I'd be happy for all three of those to stay, I think we'd regret losing Spence so soon.

I think both Emerson and Spence have capacity to play elsewhere other than just RB.

At LB, if we were to keep one of Reguilon and Davies... I'd choose Reguilon personally.

I've seen a few people mention this - what's the story behind it? They just got CL again and with the TV money and commercial revenue I thought they'd be up to their usual massive spending again this summer.

Also they've been bidding like 50m for Mount and are linked to keepers and strikers.

I think it's very likely that one of the old guard sticks around, especially after Eccleshare's quote about Dier planning to stay put.

IMO we're unlikely to sign more than 2 CBs this window with one of Dier, Sanchez and Tanganga knocking about as the 4th choice.

What you're describing would be the dream scenario, though.

The owners are actively negotiating the sale of the club. If you are selling a business you don't fire money at it during the sale. best discussed elsewhere though.

this would be unacceptable, all of them and their agents should be informed by the club that they are no longer in the club's plan and they should find a new club otherwise they won't play

I mean I hope this happens but it's been about 4 summers that we've hoped for a clearout at the back and in that time we've struggled to move on anyone.

Feels a bit too good to be true that we'd sign 3 CBs and get rid of all our deadwood in a single window.

Dier and Sanchez have 1 year left in their contracts, at last resort we may terminate their contracts on mutual consent just like we did with Aurier

We're still confident we can get this done. He is the first CB we are trying for and if it doesn't happen quickly then we will move on. We have offered a very fair package and as we mentioned yesterday, we aren't messing clubs around with low balling them, the offer genuinely is more than fair. I do think we will get this over the line, but as I mentioned, if it doesn't happen relatively quickly, we will move on. Club are confident however that we can get our man 🤞🏼

What's great is, we have precedent. Moving on from the Raya deal and signing somebody else actually shows club's that we are willing to walk away and sign somebody else. Before I think Levy showed he was not afraid to walk away from a deal, I think this showed we wouldn't be bullied but we often did this too late so the other club was willing to risk that we had nobody else lined up and stick to their guns. Now though, we've shown that we are willing to walk away, quickly and it's going to be with another deal. We've shown as Hotspur88 said, we're not messing clubs around and that's not only in the deals we're offering but in terms of trying to have a game of brinkmanship, we're being honest, we will walk away.

You contrast that with United, who have the reputation they've acquired from their deals with Maguire, Anthony and I feel there was one more where all summer the fee was the fee and club's knew, United will pay in the end. As being evidenced by how Chelsea are not budging on Mount.

Yeah fair enough. If that's the plan probably best to just offer them around for super-low fees or keep one around as emergency back-up, though.

Also the Aurier termination only happened in Jan after he repeatedly turned down a bunch of offers from clubs because he wanted to leave on a free and get a signing-on fee at a new club. Not sure if Sanchez or Dier would go quite that far.

Maybe they've been told they're best off leaving and they'll be 4th choice but still won't budge, it can happen. So long as we've been honest with them, we've done all we can. I think (so long as the money is there) we should build the team we want and if a player fails to get a move despite having fair warning and finds himself 4th choice likely to get only 6 minutes over the season or worse, not even registered, then that's their responsibility.

No way do we sign 3 cbs. People need to temper their expectations.

I'm pretty much certain we'll keep Dier as a backup. As much as he fell off badly last season, he is still a decent squad player in the short term.
