Regarding maddison I am incredibly surprised as we passed last summer for 50 million , it was the same time Daniel failed to persuade conte to take eriksen back who wanted to come so maybe a manager change led to this

as I said earlier in window there are going to be multiple signings in the 15-20 million range , one of main reasons we went for Angie is he can spot talent , young players with high ceilings and who are mobile , you will see us covering high amounts of ground again this season just like under peak Poch 17 and 18 seasons with multiple subs on 60-65 mins as players run into ground so despite no Europe we will need big squad , players who can’t move like holberg , dier etc will be off

as is well documented we are in advanced talks with leverkusen he fits model perfectly , young , mobile with high ceiling

they want another 5 after the keeper and maddison ,

100% agreed, and for the fee being tout about it would be an absolute steal.

Tapsoba, Maddison and Vicario for less than Rice is very, very solid business.
I don't think Tapsoba is Gvardiol level good but there's nothing wrong with that. He seems like a super solid CB which we haven't had in forever. On top of that, I think him coming from a small country and not playing at the World Cup/not for a top team is the only reason his price is touted so cheap.

Will be involved in AFCON?

I think Powers was referring to price comparison and lack of competition for his signature now vs another great season and then he's off the table for us (This is what I was agreeing with atleast) but you hit the nail on the head too.

100% agreed with, next year he could be off to a bigger club/out of our price range. On a separate note, there is definitely a money ball aspect to him that if he was from France, England, Spain or came up through the Barca/Real Madrid academy he would go for about double.

This is very reminiscent of Son coming out of Bayer/Hamburg. Comes from a smallish football nation that isn't super highly touted, talent is there (exceeded expectations like crazy) With that being said, there are tons of players like this that get overlooked for various reasons

Tapsoba looks good. Have watched a bit of Leverkusen now. Has some prime Van Djik about him - has the physicality but does not rely on it because he reads the game so well. Comfortable on the ball, and progressing into midfield carrying or via a one-two. He highly prefers to pass with his right, but does receive the ball well with his left and so does not close himself off to angles (ahem Hojbjerg). I’ve seen him on the left of Tah in a centreback two, and at RCB in a three.

I still really like Hincapié from Leverkusen. So nice on the ball, left footed, could play LCB or inverted LB. But seems to have gone quiet on that front. And of the two, Tapsoba is probably the better bet - though a double signing would be nice ;)

We're still confident we can get this done. He is the first CB we are trying for and if it doesn't happen quickly then we will move on. We have offered a very fair package and as we mentioned yesterday, we aren't messing clubs around with low balling them, the offer genuinely is more than fair. I do think we will get this over the line, but as I mentioned, if it doesn't happen relatively quickly, we will move on. Club are confident however that we can get our man 🤞🏼

This really could be the crucial deal of the window - even above Maddison.

One thing is for sure, we won't be waiting long to find out either way and I approve this approach when we have alot of recruiting to be done this window.

As crazy as a signing Maddison will probably prove to be, I 100% agree with you. Our back line needs this level of an upgrade more so than we needed a creative AM.

But getting both over the line this early in the window? Permanentus Erectus indeed.

Genuinely feels like we have a clear plan. Goalie - check, Playmaker - check, Defender - pending. Yes the defender is likely the most important of the three, but I think we’ve got a shopping list and are working on multiple deals at once, it’s just that the goalie and midfielder got sorted sooner.

I expect we will either suddenly hear that he’s coming for a medical in the next 24/48 hrs or that Van de Ven is.

This is the one that could transform us.

He is such a good young defender but also has the composure and calmness to partner Romero, while his ball playing is elite.

Of course there are no guarantees with any signing and there’s a chance he gets exposed a bit by the higher calibre of attacking players in the PL but I honestly think he’s got everything to transform our backline. He’s also known as a leader in the dressing room at Leverkusen.

Praying we get this one done.
