I'm sure that you're right, as the only reason that FFP was endorsed by the clubs was to protect the staus quo from future billionaire-owned clubs. Hence the 2010 deadline, giving existing clubs time to spunk as much as they wanted without being penalised. This led directly to Citeh's extravagent purchases in order to try to buy a squad in the shortest possible time without worrying about the rules.
Agreed, which is why there is so much doubt regarding UEFA's enforcement of them. The interesting part will be when the pre-existing hierarchy can't afford to spend as lavishly as the nouveau riche and start campaigning for implementation.
I think Chelski are smart enough to realise that the ultimate sanction of exclusion from competition won't be applied for a while - if ever - and couldn't care less about any fines that UEFA might impose.
THis is the sticking point where, whenever any says they will not be implemented (and they do seem to have been designed to prevent other clubs joining the club rather than curtailing the club, itself), is that I really can't see virtually every other club in this country, including big hitters like United, and more modest, but well-run clubs like ourselves and the Goons, just sitting back and allowing Citeh and Chelsea to romp streets ahead by flouting the rules. I would await developments before writing the regs off as a lame duck, even though they are clearly flawed and I have absolutely no faith in UEFA whatsoever.
May 28 (Reuters)
Malaysian real estate company SP Setia and veteran British developer Godfrey Bradman are leading the chase to buy the site with one other bidder also in the frame, the source said, describing the Chelsea bid as "way off the pace".
What we said about Man C - Look where that lead to.
Yup.
But.
As said...they have no guarantees of the young players they get in gelling immediately, their ageing (wanka) players, who won them the CL, are at the end of their tether (Drogba is off), and they will have no guarentees that their new manager will get off to any more of a flyer than AVB. So, the purpose of my post was to cast doubt on the certainty of the claim that we all knew Chelsea would be challenging for the title next season, and saying they might be (your post) actualloy reinforces my point. Thank you
