I’ve always stuck up for Dele, even when it was clear that there were aspects of his game that were lacking because he regularly produced match winning moments which are under appreciated.

However, whether it’s confidence, trying to change his game too much to suit what others now expect, too much too soon or simply systems in football teams changing whereby his best position is nullified, there’s just something missing now.

He’s lost what made him great. The fantastic movement and killer touch in the final third seem to have gone. To the extent that these days on the rare occasions when he gets a chance I actually expect him to miss.

He’s working hard, but If he’s not excelling in the above then the other parts of his game which are lacking are going to be magnified and he’s going to just peter out into an ordinary player without a true position.

It’s quite sad actually.

I was there when he scored two against Chelsea, and when he and Kane combined for the most obscenely brilliant football we played under Poch vs West Brom.

I love the guy, I think the world of what he delivered, but you don’t need 20/20 vision to see that he’s not fit for purpose anymore. What does he deliver in offence or attack that any other top 10 team would jump at?

He's just Lee Sharpe. Won young player of the year but doesn't have the attitude or the ability to keep it up. I'm so sick of him, it's four managers now.
His attitude is fine now. He put the work in over the summer and runs miles every game. It’s the football letting him down. He’s peaked.

How he’s starting and playing 90 is beyond me. He’s so one paced and offers nothing these days. The quicker Nuno works it out, the better. Absolute luxury player that we can ill afford.

mind you, Lo Celso was just as bad.
I suggest you rewatch the first half if you think lo celso was as bad as Dele. Funny how all of our best attacking moments came through lo celso, his pass to son and regs. But you ignore that.

Agree but he seems to have polarised some sections of the forum. I thought our best moments came in the first half where he was involved, while nominally on right side he moved across the line and dropped deeper to get involved. If Reggie had a bit of quality it was GLC who had made the run and would have had a tap in.

Thought he had some decent moments in the first half but I'm really not sure how he fits into the team. Also maybe it's just me but physically he doesn't seem to be the same player he was back in his first few seasons with us.
He’s changed his body shape. He seems to have gone from quite gangly to putting on loads of upper body muscle. There’s a lot of talk about players sometimes needing to bulk up, but actually it can massively affect your movement, speed etc. He looks like a totally different player tbh in more ways than one

Just painfully slow and no longer a threat in the final third. Think he just hasn't turned out to be the player people thought he could be. Won't be the first that's happened to.

I've said it before Dele has been/let himself down a bit. He signed as a young CM who was extremely raw and developed into such a specialised player that there is no place for him in most modern teams. He's not a worse player now than when he was signed he's just no better. He deserves some credit for working his nuts off to get a place in the team but if he's not doing his old role, that he clearly did well, he's not good enough technically to play in midfield.

Other than have the misfortune to be the one marking the outstanding Tiago at set pieces I don't see what he's doing wrong. People keep judging him on what they expect him to do, rather than what he actually does. Meanwhile the same posters will make every excuse under the sun for a certain other midfielder who goes missing for large chunks of games, lets runners waltz past him multiple times a game, and is fucked by 50 mins.

I think my only real open play issue with him yesterday was his execution. He both saw and attempted several good passes to get players through on the flanks but his range was off.

Do you really not see the difference?

Ok here goes

Alli has zero quality on the ball, he just runs around a lot.

Ndombele has lots of quality on the ball, and yesterday most of our best things came through him or GLC. Yes Ndombele's fitness is a joke and he tires, but the reason people make excuses for him (not sure where though I still see lots of people slating him), is because he has tremendous ability on the ball.

What do you want? Just really poor footballers like Alli playing for Spurs who do nothing with the ball? Can you point out one bit of great play Alli has created or finished this season or even last?

Jose was right in wanting to let him leave, not that he went the right way in doing it.

Chelsea’s best chance in the first half came from Dele playing a cross field pass straight to a Chelsea player. Wasn’t just that he was marking Silva it was that he gave him a free pass to attack the ball. Not excusing Ndombele as think Nuno should have seen the signs he was gassed towards the end of the first half. Credit Dele for his effort but not a lot of quality, his one contribution was to release Reggie, think we need to aspire a bit higher than effort.

Yeah thats a fair comment. I have faith he'll find his range as he plays the deeper role more. I liked the starting line up yesterday, but I'd start with a CM 3 of Dele, PEH and Tanguy next weekend.
