As I've been saying for ages. Certain players were being told to play in a way that wasn't natural for them The roles certain players were being asked to do to fit Pochs stupid diamond bollocks was holding them back. By the time he had dropped it it was too late. Confidence in his methods and much changed philosophy had gone.

All Jose has done is told him to play his game again.
Spot on and hope whoever don’s it did it by mistake. Poch more recently especially with the diamond wasn’t playing players to their strengths, round pegs in round holes today from Jose and look how good we looked and how much more balanced we looked, surprise surprise.

I feel bad for poch but I think the better we got the more out of his depth he got and ultimately he tried to reinvent the wheel when he really didn’t need to, what made him suddenly drop the 4-2-3-1/3-4-2-1 and move to the diamond etc I will never know but it was a very bad decision.

onwards and upwards now with Jose :)

I will put my mortgage on him playing for another mid table club within two years.

I have never rated him and many times described him on these boards as a more skilful Tim Cahill.....I must now write an apology to Tim and his family and ask them for forgiveness.

Southgate has seen what he is.

Can we start a collection to buy @ILS a tent?

I had not been back to this thread since Oct 28. The amount of crap posted since is amazing.
Kudo's to Jose for letting Dele be Dele again. Watch this kid go from strength to strength. He has always had it. It appears Jose understands how important he is to us. A firing Dele means a firing Kane as well. Looking forward to the future, especially next season from the start. To far down now.
And that sideline pass on his ass was delicious.

Which makes everything so incredibly frustrating.

16/17 season we had a brilliant set up and every one seemed to know their role. But because we couldn't get over the line and Dembele was starting to wane, Poch started to change our style and set up.

In reality we only really needed to give ourselves more depth and find a replacement for Dembele.

I understand it's not as simple as that but Poch ended up so far removed from this brilliant set up.

In other words by trying to evolve it he ended up muddling everything and seemed to just go down a route he had no idea on where it was actually going.

Eh? Poch had been playing him as a number 10 in recent games ??‍♂️
I think it was more than just the positional change that helped Alli yesterday - he was also clearly instructed to move the ball quickly and find Kane and Son in the box.

For the first time in forever he didn't take 8 touches and slow the play down. Instead he was a huge threat, playing decisively, making quick through balls and connecting with Kane in a way we haven't seen since 16-17.

Alli has never really played under a great tactician (Southgate, Hodgson and later era Poch have all used him poorly) so I'm really excited to see what Jose can get out of him. Based on yesterday - a hell of a lot!

Amazing and glowing assessment from Mourinho on Dele. Intelligent player who did exactly as instructed after only two days of work, and played 60-65 minutes of brilliant football the way he did when impressing the world. Again, Mourinho was alluding to his job being clarifying for the player(s) their exact role, and I took it as another suggestion that Pochettino was confusing them in the end.

Dele was absolutely brilliant. The best game he has played in a long long time.
Poch was all about using this players as pegs on the board. Its important that players adhere to a system but it has to be balanced with them being able to use their natural instincts and talents. Poch I think was holding on to dear life with his plan, Mourinho is more mature about how to put those two things together

Yeah, I think that's true, and I believe it will be important for fans to judge the players now based on how they start performing, and not force upon them labels that were attributed to them in the past. I'm thinking about how the game play will be different, and maybe bring out different qualities in our players. And we should give them a chance to shine now, free of faults, perceived or otherwise, in the past. I really think our best 11 is a really good line up, so let's give them a chance to prove that. For instance Aurier isn't a great defender, so organise away some of his defensive duties. Davies isn't a great attacker, so organise away some of his attacking duties. Sànchez isn't great in extensive build up play, so let him focus more on actually defending. Etc. etc. etc.

I agree with the first parts but as far as their duties go,not sure how that can work. For instance I think with Aurier his decision making is a problem in defence even though he is strong.Would you put him in another position. There is only one for him and if he isn't good defensively then its a problem. I think he is a strong physical player that cant control his emotions. Cant see him working out unless Mourinho straightens him out but it has to be as a RB (wing back)

Fair play for being a good sport.
Let's be honest i think my comment about Bale that time was about 10 times worse. Still not a big fan of his but if Mourhino can get him being effective over a consistent period of time then I will happily put my hands up and say I was wrong.

I don’t remember what you said about Bale, but if was along the lines of what I’m now inferring, then I’m sensing a trend with regard to talented but I consistent young footballers ;)

For what it’s worth, my uncle once said he’d drive Bale to whoever would take him for free.

I said both Martin Chivers and Harry Kane weren't good enough for Spurs.

The bale comment was I thought he would be the best left back in the world and doesn't have the abilities to play further forward.

Dele did play well yesterday but the space he had I wouldn't expect him to get it when we play at home for example so I still don't think we should be all banging the drum after one performance even if it was an encouraging one.
