I think the way that Dele fits into our current group of players is if we decide to go down the route of a 3-4-3. Because what the 3-4-3 allows you to do is have your fullbacks push up wide. This in turn means your 3 forwards play a lot closer together constantly so they'd be very close to Kane instead of doing the type of job that Son/Moura have been doing. This would suit Dele a lot more especially with Kane and his ability to pick passes. The problem for Dele is he'll be competing with Bale, Son and Bergwijn for this type of job but there's plenty of games to go around.

If we play 4-3-3 it's hard to see where he fits unless he adapts his game aggressively, if we played 3-4-3 sometimes then he wouldn't have to adapt as much. The alternative is if we play a very tactically flexible 4-3-3 where Hojbjerg sits as the 3 defender when we have the ball and allows us to take up the 3 man defence in possesion with the two midfielder infront of the 3 man defence, fullbacks pushing up and forwards coming central, Liverpool sometimes set up like this where they ask Salah and Mane to play the width of the box instead of out wide but this flexible formation puts a lot of pressure on the fullbacks to get up and down the pitch moreso than the 3-4-3 as they're expected to give us the attacking benefits of the 3-4-3 and the defensive benefits of the traditional 4-3-3.
Why would you keep ‘finding’ a place for someone who hasn’t performed fo over a year at least? I just don’t see it.

Ndombele is a midfield General ie good at everything once up to speed.
I'm not sure he is at all - A midfield general is someone akin to say Roy Keane, Patrick Viera, etc - someone who can not only drive the team forward but be just as good as putting out fires at the back too - TN is not really a complete midfielder in that regard, now Moussa Dembele? Yep he was that type.

Not really Dele is a prestigious talent
Would argue that that prestigious talent, was probably extinguished a couple of years back imo. I believe that Dele has to re-invent himself and that looks likely to be somewhere else.

He was actually on fire when Jose first came in. Unfortunately that didn't last but was a glimpse of what he is still capable of.

Are we replacing the n'dombele fat posts with dele is lazy ones?

He has been a great servant to the club, sure his lost some form but look at his record , sensational. This manager won't be here long whether you are a fan or not I think its something we all suspect so it would be madness to turn or or freeze out someone so talented and young because they have fallen out.

A coaches job is to get the best out of players not to freeze out the ones he can't get the best out of.

Not really - his job is also to pick the best team.

Plenty of explanation over the last few pages for why that is the case, to be honest. He hasn't 'frozen him out' at all - he's simply said that there are 8 others who are in the same boat. At the end of the day, who do you drop for him?

In two matches he's gone from being a certain starter to not in the squad. Come on thats freezing him out.

I was hoping hed get a chance this week to prove himself. A ound up Dele and a firing Dele usually go hand in hand

If the player doesn't fit the system, should the coach persist with a square peg in a round hole? Surely not.

That's called 'being dropped'. He wasn't up to scratch against Everton and hasn't been in the squad since he was subbed off.

It's amusing really, I assume it has to be aggrandised for Mourinho - as if he goes around with the grace of shrek instead of, you know, banging on for what we can observe to be almost a year now about how Dele doesn't try hard enough.

How much slower could the issue burn? Mourinho's not soft in the head - he knows that Dele is going to cost him his job if he relies on this version of him.

Danny Rose has been frozen out - but even then he's spent two years in the fridge first.

Is there any reason he can't be part of a midfield with PEH and GLC? Wasn't he a midfield player when we bought him after all?

...or am I missing something really obvious?

The shape of the team has changed. You either adapt or you get left behind.

Surely there is a place there if he wants to make it work.

The whole team wasn't upto scratch.

Lucas wasn't upto scratch yesterday will he no longer be in the squad?

Look you agree thats fine. I personally don't like this style of management. I happen to think Danny rose for all his faults and dele alli have done a lot for this club and deserve more respect than to have their number stripped from them or to suddenly be be totally ousted from the squad because of a bad game.

I say bad game because let's be honest its not a bad game he obviously gave mourinho some grief back, its not tactical, its not about form its about them having a row. Last season it was N'dombele and this it is dele.

For the record I certainly wouldn't have dele as a certain starter. But going from just that to not even worthy of the squad isn't dropping him its making it public to either humiliate him or force him out.

My memory’s terrible but didn’t Dele’s breakout years coincide with peak Poch? We actually dominated enough to afford one member basically floating around, hiding from the markers his teammates were wearing out and disorienting, ready to pop up undetected with a touch of quality.

I sort of feel he’s still trying to sneak up on the opposition, but the opportunity isn’t there any more because they usually have us under pressure already.
