Defence v Chavs

So Danny Rose being out of the Chelski game is a huge blow, compounded by the fact that Davies is out injured as well. With plan A & B out the window, plan C I'd assume would be to move Jan into the left back spot, but with Toby out, it would leave us with a CB pairing of Dier and Wimmer to try and handle an on fire Diego Costa. Chelsea are top and flying high at the moment and use the width offered by Alonso and Moses to great effect, which will test both full backs.

So what's the answer? Do we mirror their 3-4-3 and if so, who should play left of the 4? Has Trippier ever played on the opposite side for Burnley, in a similar way that Azpilicueta did for so long for the Chavs?

I'm don't think we should try to match their 3 at the back shape, that's for sure. Son has to play on the left and try and exploit the space between Moses and Azpilicueta. It's possible Poch could move Trippier over, although I'm not sure about that. Would really love to have Toby and Jan together in the centre for this one.

I wouldn't disrupt the centre of the back four by moving Verts.
Either slip Danny on, they might not notice,
or put Bale back to full back just for this game.
Seriously? Dier and Verts with someone or other at left back.
How hard can it be? N'Koudou?
Or time for someone from the youth to step up.
Must be a left back knocking around the changing rooms Shirley
It's only a must not lose game after all.
Go 3 with Walker Dier and Verts leftish.

5 at the back with tripper at LB. I don't know if he's any good as a LB, but the thought of a back-4 with Dier and Wimmer in the middle against Chelsea makes me nauseous. Red card written all over it.

Did Trips ever play there in his Burnley days?

Either we play Wimmer at left back which he does for austria but we lose a lot of our attacking play, or we play Vert lb and disrupt the Dier/Vert CB partnership,

For me, best case scenario is Alder is back and him and Dier can play cb with Vert LB

I don't think it's entirely nutty as an idea. At Wembley, Sissoko from time to time got the ball, considered it worriedly for a while and then gave it to Kyle Walker as the nearest available right winger who might go forward. If he sees his job as beating up Chelsea's left wing - another suspension would be fine - while handing the ball over to Son, it might work.

I'd go mega-rogue and play 3 at the back with Dembele as the left wing-back. He's better than Moses, can tackle, cross, dribble and tackle.

Trips at LB. you need somebody who knows where he is supposed to be on the pitch in different scenarios, as a fullback. You don't want somebody to be caught out of position which is much more likely to happen if you have a non-specialised full back playing there.

I'd play Vertonghen left back and hope Alderweireld is fit...I don't think we should play 3 at the back against Chelski simply coz of Hazard

Lloris

Walker
Alderweireld
Wimmer
Vertonghen

Dier
Wanyama

Dembele
Alli
Eriksen

Kane

The other advantage of this side is defending set pieces. There is no way they should be winning any headers with Toby, Wimmer, Verts, Dier, Wanywama and Kane there.

Could Lamela also play there? plenty of energy getting up and down the line.
Just a question mark on tackling
