I keep hearing we have all this money from player sales. Most clubs do not pay all upfront. So this notion that there is 80m "in the bank" is silly imo.
....And we wouldn't be paying all up front on transfers either so the principle is the same if we have £x million coming in over the next 3-4 years from completed transfers we can budget to spend £x million over the next 3-4 years on incoming transfers.

He looks awesome, but who thought we'd be breaking our transfer record with a centre half? I guess this will mean Dier moving into midfield permanently and giving up on signing a right back?

I was thinking more like 3 at the back with 5 through the middle, now that we got rid of walker we will rely less on wing backs maybe. With barkley coming we would have an insane midfield.

It's one of those that is so close now that I think a few sources are willing to announce it in the hope of being one of the first to break it.

Cadena Ser is a very good Spanish source. I would believe such a story - only problem is that really what they said & it's not any translation error ?

Can't help thinking we're being a bit paranoid here. This is understandable given what's happened in the past but Chelsea will want the finished article like van Dyke from Southampton. Sanchez is still potential - excellent prospect but has been playing in the Dutch League. Definitely more suited to us than the blue scum.

Yeah, I agree fully. I'm not even certain that I believe Chelsea are heavily interested in him - it feels a bit convenient for Ajax that one of our closest rivals would register an interest almost as soon as Ajax are resolved to letting him go...

But that's a debate for another thread.....

I wonder if anyone has updated his Wikipedia page yet.

I'm not getting excited- my worry is that with Chelsea conceding three to Burnley and with a seeming inability to do any scouting for themselves we could see another guzumping. Conte will be bitching about the transfer market and a thin squad. I hate to be the pessimist but we've been burnt more times then a kid on his first 18-30 holiday.
It's amusing that the media keep refering to Chelsea's squad being thin. The BBC were on about it on Saturday, Conte is whinging about it to the press and the Chelsea forums as well. This is the team that currently has over 70 players on it's books,+ 30 of which are all over Europe on loans.

And with Abramovich splitting from his 3rd wife last week and another divorce to pay out on, how about Chelsea giving some of their 50 or so other players they own a chance instead of spunking another £100m on a quick fix. Just a thought.

What Fifa need to do is restrict the amount of players a club owns to put a stop to this nonsense.

Chelsea already have a quality young defender in Andreas Christensen, can't see them going for Sanchez as well

As it's a Spanish source I can only imagine that Madrid have ended their interest as we are in the driving seat. Doesn't mean it's 100% done, but certainly a good sign if other clubs are moving on.
