Re: Herc's latest ITK it would make sense that Brooks could now be our primary AM target.

If we do sell one of our expendable attacking players, like Lamela, it will be interesting to see if we'll be looking to bring in an additional AM / Winger.

So why Brooks over Marcus Edwards?

Obviously Brooks has proven he can do it in the Prem, but at the same time he's yet to prove he'd be a regular starter in a top 6 club. He's also just been out for a season and has struggled on his return (according to the Upthecherries forum anyway.) Edwards has just had is first decent season and really sparkled after the restart. He's 2 years younger than Brooks and way more gifted. Brooks, however, is clearly shown his perfectly capable of physically playing Prem football, when Marcus hasn't, so that is a massive thing in Brook's favour.

Ultimately Brook is a safe bet, as he is unlikely to more than a 7/10 or less than a 6/10. A 7/10 homegrown player is always a good option in the Prem, even for the clubs playing in Europe. Marcus could struggle physically and totally flop, so be a 3/10. But on the other hand, he has the ability to be a 9/10. Talent wise he's still the crown jewel in English football, not Sancho.

Personally, I just have such strong doubts about Edwards physically, even though he looks so much stronger now. But he'd cost us so little and I reckon he might stay in Portugal for another year and that gives us more time to follow his progress and make a decision. I actually think we can wait a year in terms of investing in another attacking player.

I think Brooks can have a Lamela level impact for us. Maybe more in terms of goals and assists, but in overall play less. Edwards can potentially be an Eriksen or even a Hazard for us, but the risk is much greater.

I suppose if we signed Brooks this season and he gets regular game time, there is no reason we couldn't sign Edwards next summer, is he continues to improve. But if Edwards want to come back to England this year, then I think it's a tough decision.

Maybe as Edwards had numerous chances already but didn’t take them with his professionalism questioned?

He's only 21, a physical late developer and has just had a very solid season in Portugal, where he finished 6th highest in the Whoscored rankings. We've got a 50% sell on clause, so can get him back cheaply. If he was unprofessional, I'd have thought he's gone a long way to proving he's matured since then, as he's gone to a foreign league and become a key player for his club.

Delusional. The guy who is one of the top players in Bundesliga is better than the dude in God knows where ever he is playing now.

One minute you're making fun of people who want players from Bournemouth, next minute you're proclaiming Edwards is more talented that Sancho. Christ.

I’m not sure Joey said anything worth of this level of ire. He didn’t say Edwards is better than Sancho, he said he’s more talented while in the same breath also saying he could be a total flop if he returned. He also said that Brooks would probably be a good signing, just not spectacular in his opinion. He’s made these points on highly subjective issues and may well be right on all of them, but even if he’s not it does need you lot getting so angsty about it.

He’ll, if I made my all time Spurs xi from my lifetime I’d get a tonne of flack for not having several recent favourites in.

Really not sure how Brooks. Fits into the side l. And not sure if signing someone in his position is indicative of Jose changing formation. Moving off young David for a second the players above such as Edwards, Binks, KWP particularly under the previous regime surely has to be looked on as a failure and likely to have cost us in the Medium
nd long term.

Good dribbler and passer who plays well on the counter. Not sure how Brooks doesn’t fit into the side personally.

Why buy a player who already has a poor injury record. I like his talent, but what's the point if he is Lamela mark two. Eze seems way more robust and the one i'd go for. Not being injured or brittle is something important, although early in his career, Brooks just seems to be one of those players that will be in and out of the medical room, i think he had some issues pre Bournemouth too.

Don't get me wrong, if he is somehow very cheap, i.e. 15m or under i'd take a punt. But that will be very unlikely considering his form in his first season. I just feel we can't take such chances on on a player which isn't a key area to be strengthened.

Lamela is here for 7 years and played in ~40% of games Tottenham had, Brooks had 1 injury

This is the bit that sums up Spurs in the transfer market, for me.

We are much happier to stick rather than twist. Stay with the status quo, rather than freshen up the squad.

This saw 18 months of no signings, Jan’s decline from his super-Jan peak, Ali’s loss of form, Eriksen’s unrest and the players showing the most desire to play often being Sissoko and Lamela, neither of whom should actually be at the club any more.

We are far too happy to sit and wait for the potential to develop, instead of cutting losses and turning over fringe players (Foyth being another example).

Just look at the effect Bergwijn had in the squad. We need, in my opinion, to move on the players that have stagnated, and replace them with potential, like Brooks or Eze.

I get what you are saying, but equally, if we were to sell players like Jan and Dele at their peak, then we get labelled an unambitious selling club.
I don't find it helpful to compare players but Brooks reminds me very much style wise to Dele. I can't see him being cheap (not cheap enough to justify being a squad player)

My only problem with selling lamela, is he is the only player we have that seems to get stuck in when things are not going well. Others hide, he lifts us with his attitude and aggression. None of our other players seem to have that

To be fair to Brooks, he's had 1 bad injury that needed a second lot of surgery and lengthy rehab. That doesn't really translate into 'brittle'. It could happen to any player. It could happen to Eze. I'd be quite happy with either of them.

If we can add Hojbjerg and Ndombele stays we’re going to have 3 combative central midfielders in the pitch which negates the need to keep Lamela.
