The problem the club faces is that it is going to be difficult to off load any of the three strikers for decent money. I doubt whether any of them will be moving to a bigger club, so that leaves the mid to lower reaches of the PL, where clubs will bulk at a hefty transfer fee combined with wage demands which they can't meet.

I don't know, I think Villa, Sunderland and Newcastle are usually looking for a striker and pay good wages.

All 3 would get a move very easily. Pav always has clubs interested and JD is a proven goal scoring international player. Crouch again is in demand.

We would get 30 million for the 3 of them if sold tomorrow imo.

I wasn't going to have a dig at crouch - he has scored another crucial and valuable goal. (did you see how close he got it to the post?) Crouch did cover a lot of ground to be fair, but I have to agree with you two, he hardly won a header all night.

I got neg repped for this and told it was a total load of shit!

well here is crouch's contribution to the game:
0.24 unchallenged chest from throw in to spurs player
1.21 offside
3.00 fouls keeper from long ball
4.00 beaten in the air
4.27 chests ball and loses possession from cross - should have headed it
7.51 beaten in the air
10.22 wins header to spurs player then recieves it back and finds spurs player with pass
10:36 misses cross from lennon
11.00 fouls gattuso
12.00 chests cross to vdv
13.20 beaten in air by yepes
14:00 challenges keeper in air - keeper wins ball
19.28 tackles but gives ball to milan player
20.33 back pass to bae in midffield
21.54 unchallenged heads ball to milan player
24.25 misdirects pass but goes to spurs player
26.00 comes deep to pass ball to bae
28.10 beaten in air
31.30 fouls gattuso
32.11 loses ball in tackle
36.19 wins header to bae
39.00 beaten in air by yepes
40.11 free header finds spurs player
41.00 short pass to vdv
41.45 heads corner back across penalty area to defender who clears
42.37 beaten in air
44.00 beaten in air
44.49 wins header
45.00 +1 wins header

45.23 fouls opponent
47.40 pass back to palacios in own half
51.49 pass back to palacios in own half
52.48 heads ball to milan
53.04 fouled by nesta
51.27 blocks clearance ball rebounds to keeper
59.48 yepes beats crouch in air, gomes makes great save
52.45 flick on finds modric
65.00 beaten in air by gattuso
67.35 heads ball to milan
68.00 offside
58.35 fouls gattuso
68.57 heads ball to milan
70.00 weak header to keeper from free kick
72.00 two short passes to spurs players
74.13 chests ball down and passes back to bae
74.50 heads ball to milan
75.44 beaten in air by defender
78.38 beaten in air by defender
79.39 scores goal
80.59 misplaced pass to milan
83.00 flick to krankjar
84.28 header to krankjar
85.35 wins tackle passes to spurs player
80.27 back pass to bae
88.00 beaten in air
89.13 gives ball to milan
89.48 misses tackle
90.19 chests down ball and loses possession

Count the number of times he headed the ball to a spurs player (7) and compare it with the number of times he was beaten in the air or gave it to milan (22) and judge for yourselves!

We did everything we could to make him score, and only when Lennon put unselfishly the ball on plate for him he could do it but then anyone on the team could have put that ball in, even Gomes.

I think his air superiority is overrated. He has scored more goals with his feet than with his head. So why dont we just stop wasting our possession when trying to set him up for something he is not that good?

Crouch had a storming game against Milan...I'm sad I've now watched the game 3 times lol. seriously though Crouch lead the line very well ACM could not cope with the awkardness most importantly held onto the ball well when he received it and laid it off to a Spurs players allowing for good possession.

Have to say also Sandro got great praise in the ratings deservedly coming into a game at the San Siro against ACM but Palacios Pienaar Lennon were fantastic.

Having a top class striker, who is deadly in front of goal but also has skill, presence and the ability to be involved in our build up play would take us to another level and actually make us title contenders.

Arsenal have Van Persie, Man Utd have Berbatov and Rooney, Man City have Tevez and Chelsea have Drogba and Torres.

All these strikers do more than just stand up top. They are all skillful, have a great touch and good vision, can link play or beat people, can finish and can score goals out of nothing.

We don't have that. All of our strikers are barely mentioned during games, they don't get involved with our slick passing game, they all rely on service and even then their finishing is poor.

A top class striker and all of a sudden we would be on another level to where we are now, imagine that!

Completely agree with all of that. Hoped Pav would be the man, but doubt that he is - and anyway his relationship with Harry seems so broken that it's obviously never going to work out for him with us anyway.

Defoe's a natural goalscorer (although you wouldn't know that lately), but he's not that line-leading, link-up play specialist centre forward.

The 'new Drogba' is the signing we need to genuinely challenge for the title. We just need to find him first and be able to afford him. Tough...

Try once more, but without the rose tinted specs

I've watched it twice, just in case my "I don't think Crouch is a particularly good target man" prejudice clouded my view .
Crouch did cover a lot of ground, but I really didn't see him hold the ball very much at all. Most of the passes he made to spurs players were were first time and either inside our own half or around the halfway line and he did get beaten in the air so many times even by that short arse gattuso.

I want to like him, and of course I want him to do well, but if we play him we must play to his strengths, which unfortunately don't include his aerial ability.

I think that foreign teams just haven't realised this (unlike teams in the premier league).

I suppose I may have just created a good argument why we should continue whacking long balls at him, but I still think we would do better to carve out chances with our passing game.

Since I first posted Pav, JD and Crouch have netted 6 goals (2 each) in 7 games. JD started 4 games, Pav and Crouch 3 a piece. This is an improvement!

They now have 13 premiership goals (from 43 starts) compared to 31 last season (from 60 starts).

I don't know how many minutes they played, but overall last season they scored 47 from 80 starts compared to this season's 22 from 57.

It's obviously been a difficult season for them, but I remain hopeful they'll score enough vital goals to get us back in the Champions League.

Anyway, it was good to see Pav and Crouchie playing well yesterday. Unfortunately, JD hasn't looked so hot, except in the Wolves game.

7 premiership games plus the Real return to go. Come on guys, step up!
