Once our other defenders are fit/not suspended I really believe we should give Vedran Corluka a run as DM for a few games. I think he could make an instant impact, add cohesion between defense and midfield and allow Ramos more of an opportunity to prove that 4-5-1 is not dead in the water (which it looks like at present). [See the footage on youtube of him at DM for Man City for those who haven't already]

Jenas and Zokora cannot pass the ball. Whether you think these two are utterly useless pieces of **** (like me) or that they just blow hot and cold sometimes (yeah right) doesn't really matter. The fact is - these people cannot dictate play. They cannot inject bite to this tottenham side and give our boys a lift with either an interception or a killer-pass when we are behind. A 'good work-rate' (Jenas) is just running around unless you can tackle for 90 mins and pick a pass. 'Some penetrative runs and lots of effort' (Zokora) are not enough if you can't tackle for 90 mins and pick a pass. (Moreover, Jenas will never 'come good, and Zokora will never play for another club even half as good). O'hara runs around a lot and has a bit of bite but he has very little technical ability and is just a boy who cannot lead.
Corluka CAN BE DM. Steady the midfield. Start the counter-attacks and give our defenders some reassurance. Confident in the air, composed on the ball, assured in the pass and with an eye for the man in space. He might not have the work-rate of the other two but he doesn't need to - when he played DM for Man City he just worked a clearly laid out area effectively and didn't try being an AM like Jenas and Zokora, who usually get caught out of position when we lose the ball.
(And I bet that those of you who think Jenas is still an effective 1st team player are EXACTLY THE SAME PEOPLE who keep defending Ledley King. You are being led by emotions and not facts. Sure we all loved the guy when he was actually playing football and he deserves some respect. But King is FINISHED. Why he is still Captain I don't know. Don't give me this 'On His Day' bollocks. He will never have his day again. It is a joke that people think this situation is acceptable.

DM and LM have not been resolved since 2005 when I joined this site.

WHY HAVE WE BEEN UNABLE TO BUY JUST 1 ABOVE AVERAGE PLAYER IN EACH OF THESE TWO POSITIONS IN 3 YEARS?

I don't care which manager or DOF we had at any one time, how can so many people be so STUPID?

DAMIEN 'I'm the Son of the Devil' COMMOLI......

THIS MAN IS CANCER

Someone must know someone who knows someone who knows Levy, right? Can't we just pass the message on to him like ordinary folk? We need to Stop the rot.

Bought crap players Jol didn't want and/or hadn't heard of
Had Jol Sacked barely into last season.
Suggested Ramos on 2 seasons of football.
Bought crap players Ramos didn't want and/or hadn't heard of
TOOK NO RESPONSIBILITY AS OF 25/10/2008
Will remain after Ramos sacked, like a festering disease. Wormtongue.
KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL (was this not the main point of having bloody DOF?)

Levy isn't to blame, just saying he should take ultimate responsibility is all very well and proper but he has brought other people in and paid them to take that responsibility for him. Of all the culprits in this failure of a season, he is not the one to be protesting against. Sure, he tries to make money all too-often at the expense of progress but that is in his blood. We cannot change that. What we can do is get behind a piss poor team cos they can't all be sold at once, stick with the manager for a while and GET THAT DEVIL OUT NOW PLEEEASE

He looks fantastic in the clips in CM but we dont have anybody else to partner Woody each week which is IMO more important, we must have a settled Central defence.

I totally agree mate. This is where he will end up. He is made for this position plus he has exceptional technique.

how can we ever have a settled central defence when King plays every other game, if we're lucky.
I agree that Corluka partnering his buddy Modric in midfield would be great.

Its a good idea providing Corluka is game. Actually, he'll probably see it as a blessing, if it moves him further away from Gomes.

Whilst Zokora does make some tackles, he's less sucessful than other MFs and much less so than Corluka. Also, I think Zokora is a bit useless as a DMF as he keeps running up to the other penalty box. If he is going to be a DMF, then he should remain there.

At the moment though, it looks like Corluka would be our only fit CB tomorrow. Might have to play 3 at the back.

Like your idea Jay.....it's just

with the other frailties we have got, would this solve one problem only to create another?

I agree about Corluka, been saying it for a while meself. And I do believe we have enough cover at CB to let him play DM, Daws, Rocha, Hudd, Zokora (even) can play there, but none of them can play DM.

we should give corluka and modric a chance instead of zok and jj the invisible man
they cant do any worse and maybe modric will be able to show just how good he is with someone next to him that will actually help him out
as for commolli ........ he should of gone last season instead of jol

Totally agree on Corluka but would also point out that I think the best cover for Ledley at CH is Zokora, all his failings in CM go away at CH where his pace and tenacity are what counts. If Woodgate is fit I'd play him alongside Zokora tomorrow and if he isn't I'd bring in Rocha but either way Corluka should move in to CM.

Corluka and Huddlestone would be a muscular if slightly immobile duo in the middle.

In front of them could be a trio of Jenas/Modric/Lennon or Bentley

------------------Gomes--------------------------------

Hutton ---- Woodgate (c)--- King or Zokora--- Bale

--------- Corluka------------Hudd-----------------

-----Lennon-------Modric---------Jenas-----------

-----------------Bent----------------------

This is just a ridiculous post with all your points based on nothing but conjecture and blinkered vision.

I'm not going to comment on the rest of your post, jay, as I didn't see Corluka playng DM, so can't pass judgement.

But, if Ramos goes, Comolli goes too. That was pretty much set in stone when Ramos arrived.

Id like to see a Corluka / Modric pairing in CM.

It cant get much worse can it, theirs no harm in trying something new, and it should seemingly work given both are exceptionally talented players from the same country as well, which would probably help increase their understanding and enjoyability at being able to play together.

If modric is happy, enjoying playing alongside his best friend, it could well lead to him actually living up to his potential.

I'd like to see us try Corluka and Modric in the middle but it's not just going to happen. We don't have enough in central defence to spare him to the midfield every game. Corluka will play centre back, because King is unable to play every game, and Dawson isn't up to it.

Corluka alongside Jenas with Modric pushed up behind the striker would be very interesting.

Levy isn't to blame, just saying he should take ultimate responsibility is all very well and proper but he has brought other people in and paid them to take that responsibility for him.

The point is that Levy has bought both Comolli and Ramos to the club. Therefore if they are not up to standard then he must carry the can as they are HIS choices. Its now up to him to either back them or replace them but at the end of the day he must take responsibility as he was the one that bought them in to do the job. He now has a big choice to make but again - its his decision
