'they want Gallagher and has nothing to do with whether holberg stays or goes , Angie see gallachers energy as perfect for his system / formation'
Key word.

You need players with energy to play this system as much as technical ability.

I get that Ange likes him but he's also the exact type of player that Poch enjoys working with. Also, can't see why he'd leave when Chelsea have already sold majority of their CM's, leaving him with a clear pathway to earning Poch's trust and becoming a starter.

I would be fine with that but just sign Alex Scott as the HG midfielder instead.
What's Alex Scott like at pressing. I can see Gallagher being that player that's used as the press initiator. Such a crucial role. Liverpool have dropped off massively since Mane left and Henderson regressed with age

If Ange really wants him then I want him.

Would be fun to see a MF3 of Maddison-Skipp-Gallagher too, when's the last time we had an English base? King and Daws at the back?

I cannot understand people in here questioning why a player who is supposedly wanted by Postecoglou would not fit into his system.

Why the fudge would he want a player who does not fit into his system.

if he wants him we should get him and if all the smart analysts who are telling us how Ange should build his squad should really take a look in the mirror.

Apologies for the rant but are we really debating whether or not a player could fit into a system that we do not even know what it is yet?

There are a lot of experts who have never kicked a ball I am afraid.

Last window when Mike McGrath linked us with two players they then went back and signed a new contract with their club (JWP was one). Just something to remember if lightening strikes for a third time.

Viera played an attractive style of football during his first season at Palace. Gallagher was a key player. I loved what I saw of him that season. Non stop running, pressing, forward passing and goals.

If anyone thought he looked poor last year, start with the way Tuchel plays. And then Potter just didn’t get enough time to implement his tactics and methods. Plus, the kid was in and out of the team.

My opinion is based on watching him play every week at Palace. In an attacking setup like ours.
If we are playing a 433 with two 8s, then as of now we have one player ideal for one of those rules. Then two or three who sorta fit; Tanguy, Sarr, PEH. (Benta will play in the 6, rotate with Bissouma). So, I can see the logic, and on top of all that, he’s homegrown.

He does a really good job at covering for defense as they move forward. He would be a good option to slot in on the right when Porro goes forward.

I would guess that Gallagher is effectively a Lo Celso replacement on the roster - and a shift in squad balance to account for 3 CMs.

"in the squad"

We have a massive squad as is. If we are replacing players that haven't even been at the club from a playing sense we still have a massively bloated squad. I take on board the fact he is HG and so doesn't count in the same way but without Europe game time just won't be available. If he comes in it won't be as a replacement for GLC it will be at the expense of someone else.

Yes - someone who was here last year will leave in addition to Lo Celso - but it might not be a CM - hence the bit about re-balancing the squad.

I think the not dealing with Chelsea was more to do with a grudge with Abramovic and how they tapped up Modric IIRC. Now they have different ownership i'm not sure it still exists. I might be wrong.
Yeah I agree that certainly had an impact, but then we don’t do business with any of the other “big 6”, whereas between them they all do. I actually wish we did a bit tbf. I suppose the only good thing is last time we sold to one was Walker iirc

We really need to start shifting some players out soon and not the likes of Romero and PEH, we've got a lot that we won't miss if they're not here.

Another key thing is he’s a fucking immense athlete. Energy is great but when you pair it with someone that can cover the ground quickly, often and has agility too it becomes a total nightmare to play against. He actually quite reminds me of a young Jordan Henderson who I’ve thought for a very long time a lot of people underrate. A player that’s good at most things and has elite athleticism is a bloody great asset to have
