Maybe the VAR guy shouldn't be from the same country as the ref. It'd offer some different perspective since different FA's/leagues seem to have different views on these things

I'm not saying it necessarily needs to be handball anytime it hits an arm. But the current rules are ambiguous and too open to interpretation.

Yeah, I'd say if it's a goal bound shot that hits the arm then a penalty should be awarded. Or at least an indirect free kick.

Easiest draw they could have got, and somehow City are managing to fuck it up.

Jake Humphrey, the patronising twunt, belittling Peter Walton at half time. :banghead:

BT pay for an ex-professional referee to provide his opinion on refereeing decisions (in this instance, he believes the VAR call was correct) to which C. Chops Jake patronises him with, “in your opinion, whereas these three who’ve actually played the game disagree.”

If Otamendi is stood on the goal line and the same thing happens, I don’t think anyone would disagree it’s a penalty. Shouldn’t be any different when he’s standing 10 yards out.

You say that, but according to the rules the distance between the opponent and the ball needs to be considered so it does make a difference.

Very poor choice of words. Lineker would have got a similar point across with a joke.

Interesting that the VAR screen wasn't working so the ref had to just go with the decision from the guys in the bus. No wonder the decision took so long.

Ive never seen the point in these refs now appearing on the telly...pundits/commentators/cocommentators should know the laws of the game...it's their fucking job after all.

I'm not convinced that first one should have been a penalty. It hit his arm, but the rules say that it has to be deliberate. There was no movement of the arm towards the ball either. He seemed to be trying to move his arm out of the way if anything.
Arm was away from the body - ball on target towards the goal. You are not going to find many more obvious handball pens than that.
