Have to give Thomas Frank credit. No room for any of our forwards to move in the center of the pitch. While i'm a Richie fan and think he'll come good, he didn't make as much happen. Some good runs for sure but not nearly enough to force the defenders into making decisions on who to cover. Where to start on the positives - Udogie is such a massive upgrade on what we've had for years on the left side. Bissouma was fantastic. Almost got caught a couple of times with his non chalant turns but for the most part, he oozed class. Sanchez and VDV deserve credit for how well they played given the circumstances. (Although Viccario is going to give me a heart attack. i hope that some of his decisions today to come out were due to youthful exuberance.)

Quite a few other players deserve credit but i'll leave it twith this. The performance today has some distance to go but there is one observation that can't be left out. Players aren't shite. They are talented and two things bring out consistently solid performance more than anything else. Playing in a system that caters to their strengths and having the mindset/confidence to play within a system. One only has to look at Royal to see how far he has come. The jury is out on whether Davison is consistent enough but he had a solid game.

Because you gave an in-depth insight as to why you thought our GK was a joke!! Very constructive 🤣🤣🤣
I explained that I thought he looked like Hugo on those bad days. Did you want a minute by minute analysis in dissertation length?

Actually it’s not about Dier, I’m just speaking facts. Sanchez looks better with a player that isn’t slow.
So why mention Dier at all? Just say Sanchez looks better in this system and not one where he is under pressure for 90 minutes.

Game we dominated, game we should have won. I’m sure many will criticize Richarlison but he’s doing his job of pressing up against the CBS but he’s not getting any service. I don’t see how Postecoglou’s system can work with an inverted winger on one flank and an inside forward on the other side. We are not getting enough crosses in.
Bissouma and Maddison were very good, the debutants did well. Royal was poor and Skipp didn’t really affect the game. Was very surprised AP took so long to make changes, that he made so few and especially Lo Celso and maybe Solomon didn’t get on.
First game though so early days. There was a lot to like but we will have tougher games which may expose us more especially defensively. ManU will cause much more problems next week.

Royal was poor?!

What?

People have such unrealistic expectations for goalkeepers playing out from the back. When it gets played backed it’s generally because there are no good options. So you have few options to play to, a pressing team bearing down on you and fans wanting you to be perfect on every pass and moan loudly if you aren’t. Even the best GK’s in the world playing from their feet misplace passes during games.

Vicario also playing with a brand new CB. From my point of view, it looked like he was still uncertain about VDV’s pace and just overall doesn’t have the connection yet with his two CB’s as far as when they are going to clear it or he needs to sweep it up.

Give the kid time before fans start getting on him and rocking his confidence.

No, because it was Dier he played with last season, and he didn’t do well next to him. It’s my opinion and I say Sanchez looks more competent when he’s not playing with Dier.

Overall that was a pretty decent game. Losing key CB after 10 minutes, Sanchez came in and had a good game. Vdv didn't do anything wrong and looked composed. Udogie looked like he'd played in the pl for years.

Bissouma bossed things in midfield and maddison had a great game. Shout-out for Royal who was all over the pitch, had a good game and scored a great goal.

A lot of promising football. My big concern is the GK. This guy looks like a joke. Eveything was laced with anxiety. Its like we've respawned a young Hugo on his worst days.
2 poor distributions is all I can remember, no chance for the goals (would have saved the second but for the deflection). A number of decisive runs out to clear. Hardly put a foot wrong

Cannot understand what you're referring to

Edit: Oh and he spread himself really well to put off Muembo for the 'sitter' he missed at the far post

Have to disagree on Royal. I thought Emerson looked great. System suits him.
He was at fault for their 2nd goal, was beaten by Henry on other occasions also and was often sloppy in possession. I’m a fan of his and think he suits AP’s system but I thought today was a below par performance from him.

That’s what you got out of that game seriously. Son and Kulu looked ineffective, Skipp was largely anonymous, Emerson caught out for goal and sitter and the goalkeeper was the weak link.

Bissouma, Udogie, Maddison looked class and VDV and Sanchez were solid.

Ran out of steam and perhaps Ange could have used his bench a bit more.
I agree with all of that. Especially Bissouma and VDV. They were excellent.

I also got what I said about Vicario too. He looked quite concerning to me. Hopefully he settles down, but I'm concerned.

For his debut and first PL game, Vicario was fine. Plenty of room for improvement, of course, but if you're slating him already you need you head checked

What in the name of god was Conte telling Bissouma before games??? Different player today.

I'd be tempted to try Porro in the Kul role. I think he would offer quite a bit there.
I think we are going to see quite a few players freed from the shackles of Conte. He killed so many players confidence.

Will be really interesting to see how we cope against sides who actually want to play us as well. I thought we did well with very limited space. Brentford get a lot of credit but honestly they’re like a Waitrose Stoke City.

Dont think we need to be pushing panic buttons about the front three. Brentford sat so deep and compact from start to finish, we dominated the ball and there was very little space. Son, Maddison had a couple of openings Richalison too where the shot didnt go in or we didnt quite manage to get the shot off clean but another day we do.

Just so refreshing compared to what we were served up all of last year, even if there were a few issues at the back, we looked quite exposed when brentford broke.

Really impressed with bissouma, emerson vdv and udogie, honourable mention to davinson also.

A lot a lot of good stuff we can take forwards.
