Best ever Premier League performance?

Given how much I enjoyed Sunday's game and all of the plaudits that have followed from pundits, the press and opposition fans, it got me thinking - was it our best ever Premier League performance?

I think when all things are considered:
- The style of play in both attack and defence - has there ever been a better example of how to play our pressing game?
- The number of outstanding individual performances - arguably only Sissoko and Lamela were below a 9 out of 10
- The quality/stature of the opposition and their form going into the game - 100% record, Pep etc.
- The opposition's level of performance in the game itself - we were dominant and fully deserved to win by at least the 2-goal margin, but City looked dangerous in their attacking play and tested us defensively

...it has to be a strong contender. Other contenders could be 5-3 vs Chelsea in their title-winning season, 4-1 vs Man Utd on New Year's Day, 1-0 vs City in the Champions League decider. Thoughts?

It's definitely not the best we've ever played with the ball, possibly the best without it. Got a feeling the best is yet to come either way...

Doesn't quite have the emotion behind it of certain NLDs, two notable Chelsea wins or the CL decider at City. But from a pure footballing perspective, that has to be our best performance, considering the circumstances.

Beating the Gooners away about 5 years ago under Redknapp. We were 2 nil down at half time and Bale and a Van der Vaart penalty made it 2 all. Then Kaboul scored with a few minutes to go. I think Gallas was immense and we could've more than 2 down if it wasn't for him.

I think it was the first time for a long while that we had beaten a Sky 4 team away from home and possible the first time we had beaten them at their ground for around 25 years.

I went absolutely mental during this game.

Unfortunately I think missing a penalty precludes it from being the best ever..........

Brilliant moment; probably more thrilling than the City game. But a better 90-minute performance? Not a chance.

Yeah performance on Sunday was definitely up there.

Stoke 4-0 last season, opposition weren't up to much but we were absolutely frightening that day, could have scored another 4.

Arsenal 2-1 in 2015, pressing was on point and we were superb

It was only Wigan but surely the 9-1 has to be in the discussion?

Just watched that game 10 minutes ago. Defoe with almost a double hat-trick. But yeah, was only Wigan.

Funny how Martinez had hair before that game, and it instantly receded on the full time whistle.

Arsenal 2015 was our best in the past decade. We destroyed a very good team, our rivals, from minute 1 to 90.

Sunday's match was slightly overrated IMO, although we were immense off the ball, especially in the first half.

Best performance, not result.

That game and the 2-1 at home to Arsenal in Poch's first season are the two stand-outs for similar reasons. Relentless dismantling of two of the best footballing teams and coaches, in the way I have always wanted to see a Spurs team play. Poch himself last season quoted that Arsenal game as the best game during his time, although he may revise that now ?

But for me that Arsenal game was special because I'd never seen a Spurs team play like that in the nearly 50 years I've been watching them, and not in the Wenger era had I seen us truly play an Arsenal side off the park in every way, with and wothout the ball, relentlessly for 90 minutes and beat them.

I think what marks both games out is that both managers could only admit afterwards that we were just plain better, I've heard a few managers of ho hum clubs say that in the last few seasons but I'd not heard Wenger say that about any Spurs team, even when we'd beaten them previously, and to hear Guardiola say it about a Spurs team made the hairs on my nuts tingle.

This. That sums it all up. Probably the best we've ever played without the ball.

This match has got to be THE benchmark or showcase on how to play pressing football

Because it was 1st v 2nd and all the pundits were asking if we were real contenders.
because it was against a team managed by arguable the best coach ever
because they had never even gone behind in the prem before and were smashing all before them
because we actually beat them playing their style of football, not a hoofing physical shit style
because it was a TOTAL TEAM performance and not a few big name players winning it for us

yes it probably is our best TEAM performance with the managers tactics carried out over 90mins against a top side....thats why i have lost count how many times i have re-watched the highlights.

Was thinking about this the other day, not sure you'll be ever to find five better performances in the league in my 25 years as a fan

I said at the time that I believe the first half on Sunday was a better 45 than when we stuck 8 past Wigan in one half.

The first time since that day I've thought that.
