All of which may be correct, but the thread title is: 'Who is Tottenham's best modern-day striker?'

It also, as others have said, depends on how you define 'striker'.

Also, on how you define 'modern-day'.

This is why I would be curious to see that thread after the end of the season.

I believe Berbatov to be the greater talent (i know it says striker). But Klinsmann did more for Spurs than Berbs has to date. Let's compare when Berbatov and Spurs part ways...about 8 years from now.

lol. berba scored more goal of the season contenders last season than most top strikers score in their careers.

klinsmann was great for us but lets not stain his reputation by comparing him to berbatov.

No doubt that berbatov is more skilful than klinsmann, but I think klinsmann is a more effective player (goals and general play).

So far....IT has to be KLINSMANN..... That is not to say, that if Berby stays and plays to his full potential week in week out he could well be one of Tottenhams greatest ever Strikers... TIME WILL TELL!!!

If Berbatov goes at the end of this season Levy should call a Press Conference in the car park holding a crumpled up no 9 shirt. " This shirt- I wouldn't even clean my car with it . "

klinsmann for me - he proved himself at the very top level with the national team, berba fades in the big games - you have to have a champion mentality to be the best, berba doesn't have it.

You a bit wrong mate. Berba's goals in the CL are against Real, Man U, Barca, Lyon, Liverpool and Roma. He didn't score against average teams. Maybe the games against those teams are not games at the very top level? Bayer finshed first in their CL group season 2004/5 due to Berbatov's away goals against Real (1:1) and Roma (1:1). Without these goals Bayer wouldn't even qualify for the next round. Season 2003/4 Bayer and Stuttgart competed for a CL spot in the Bundesliga: both games Bayer beat them due to Berbatov's goals - 3:1 (away - 2 goals) and 1:0 at home. The home game was the last game in the Bundesliga and Bayer needed only a victory - ant they won due to a Berbatov's goal. From these 4 goals against Stuttgart that made Bayer a CL team for the next season, 3 were Berbatov's and 2 of them were strokes of genius. To expect that he could win at the very top level with Bulgaria would be rather stupid.

Have he faded against the biggest clubs in England? I don't think so. He was immense against Chelsea away for the FA Cup (3:3), he was MOM against Arsenal away for the CC, he scored and won a penalty against Arsenal that season, he was "marvellous" (Ferguson) against Man U at the start of that season, he made two assists against Liverpool (2:2) etc. Don't sell me the bullshit of Bulgarian journous mate

If you want to know which player was the best at Tottenham you would have to admit that we got Klinsmann after his peak....he was still a good player but undoubtedly past his best when he came to us. In contrast most would agree that Berbatov is at or very near his peak. Probably the next test for him would be could he 'do it' for someone like Man Utd, that question does not diminish THFC but is just a realistic poser.

I think you are wrong there. The only time Klinsmann scored 20+ league goals was his first season at Spurs. Never before and never after that he did it. Maybe Premiership wasn't (anything) special at the time he arrived here for the first time? I remember that at that time Barca easily spanked Man U 4:0 in the CL. As regards Berbatov, he is 2-3 years away from his peak. Nevertheless, before coming here, he had already scored 20+ league goals twice.

Two different players, both utter class and it's a joy to see them playing in a Spurs shirt!

Klinsmann has been gone a while, so it's easier to forget how great he was. The movement for this goal is brilliant!

I don't really think you cam compare as they were in different squads and as people have said Klinsman had probably peaked when he came to us, but in saying that I don't get the same expectations or goose bumps when Berbatov plays as when Klinsman played. I can never remember JK going missing in games the way that DB does.

But you could argue that the Bundesliga then was a much stronger league then than it has been in recent seasons. Really, how many goals our strikers have scored at their previous/subsequent clubs is irrelevant to the debate.

On pure footballing terms Berbatov is the better player. Berbatov scores and creates. He is a complete play-making forward.

A fairer comparison would be Berbatov to Cantona, and Klinsman to Davids/Defoe.
