The Bale circus continues. DL cant sell. Its probably our first chance in 2 generations to cement ourselves worldwide through Bale's cachet as the fave club for the next generation of fans.

Les Ferdinabd really should never be allowed to speak. I still remember his mouth running off without filter ahead of our Fa cup semi final a while back. I'm sure he's a good coach or we'd not have him, but he has a big mouth.

And a small brain, well suited for Talkshite.

All Ferdinand will do with those remarks is weaken our position, even if only slightly. Is he thick or something?

Les Ferdinand is as thick as dinosaur shit.

He could count the brain cells he has on one hand.

In fact, maybe not. I'd be incredibly surprised if he could count to five.

The fact that, as a striking coach, he's about as useful as tits on a fish going by the last few seasons' efforts.

I know he originally came as some kind of striking coach, but as a young coach trying to cut his cloth on the road to management I'm sure he's involved with far more than just our strikers.

If the bid is over 60 million pounds then we have to sell IMO. That sort of money could help us build a team that's good enough to compete for the title. Perhaps not next season, but in a couple definitely. Bales a great player that we all love but sometimes you just have to look at the bigger picture.

80m is a ton of scratch. But, the only way it'd make sense to accept it is if we're going to put it straight back into the squad.

Something I'm just not that confident in. But, if we sell off other players to reduce the wage bill, we could bring in some quality players with that amount of money, and probably not throw off the wage scale completely.

And also, as others have mentioned, Les Ferdinand needs to shut the hell up.

The only we would could win the title in the next 5 or so years is with Bale in the side. He is a matchwinner of unparallelled quality. Maybe only RVP and Suarez come close. He could score a 30 goals next year with a little luck and no injuries.

Because he did such a spectacular job with our strikers?!

Since Les joined the coaching staff our strikers have got gradually worse and worse......

Indeed. I mean, he's either getting better or in an area of the club that AVB and the senior coaches don't care about, considering he's still at the club.

Who can say really. There are likely up to a dozen football people employed at each club who are next to useless, if not an outright negative, due to the slovenly and nepotistic nature of football. It would be a bit unkind to simply lump Sir Les into that group without evidence. I have my suspicions though.

While he is a matchwinner of incredible quality that is not what it takes to win titles. What's needed is a great team and squad effort. We've had him in incredible form throughout the season and only came 5th. Quite apt you mention suarez considering his team only came 7th.

Football is a team sport and a great team will always beat a great individual. While bale might've played at a level higher than any bayern player this season, they had such a great collection of players, who all contributed to their success that it offset the value of having one world beatrer.

If we lost bale and invested the funds into building a very strong squad then IMO after the team had gelled we'd have a great chance of challenging for the title. We have a great foundation and the sale of bale could help us build a wonderful team.

Hmmm, City have already spent over £60m on two players and the window isn't even properly open yet so how would we compete with that? I'm getting angry just thinking about selling Bale for £60m, need to stop typing.

Compare the amount of money city spent to build their current team excluding those signings, and the amount oof money it took to builld dortmund. Guess who won when the two of them played eachother?

60million is a lot of money and we could go and pick up quality players all over for that amount. As long as we do our homework correctly we could pick up a few gems for that amount of money. Obviously when city is trying to sign a player of another team that team knows that they are dealing with a bottomless pit. So they take them for all they have. Can't see any team trying those sorts of things with levy.

Firstly we could keep Bale and do that anyway if you are right.
We have money in the kitty and £20/30 million in surplus players.
(Defoe, Parker, Gomez, Benny... make your own list)
Secondly Bale is a gem that will only increase in value.
So why sell him and than have to scrat around finding others.
' A bird in the hand......

I'm sure I read a good while back, possibly even on here, that he was Sherwood's assistant rather than a coach. If he were he'd surely have moved on when Harry left rather than still be employed by us.

Indeed. Sherwood was about the last man standing really? Hasn't Parks also found new pastures now too? They're basically the last two H men standing. They must have something about them to be fair.

why dont we pick up a couple of gems and keep Bale? Any strategy that sells your best player, the best player in England no less, is a crap strategy in my opinion.

If picking up these 'gems' is so easy why have we not thought of it before when we were spunking silly money on Bentleys and Bents.

Lets see if Dortmund selling their best players this summer works for them.

Edit: I see JimmyG2 has beaten me to it. Great minds and all that.

Long and short of it for me is that football is meant to be entertaining, there's nothing more entertaining than a truly great player and we have one of those in Bale.

That makes him priceless and irreplaceable, whether we're offered £50m, £100m or £200m (though of course I'd understand accepting that final figure) because there is almost no chance that we could spend that money in a way which replaced the excitement Bale gives, regardless of how good, and how many, players we sign.

At some point Bale won't want to stay, and when that time comes, then we can talk turkey with his suitors. Until then, no amount of money is worth losing him.

People are not understanding it's not all about the fee. Yeah sell for 80mil and get 3 top quality players in... Who all want wages to match the top earners therefore making us worse off.

Bale is in a class of his own. We should be doing EVERYTHING possible to keep him.

Players will want to play alongside him, CL or not.
